Karkat remembered the day he got the wedding invitation in the mail. He couldn't believe it. Terezi and Dave were not getting married! He knew Terezi didn't really love Dave. She only thought she did.
Now, he was sitting in the church pew, waiting for the wedding to begin. Why had he even bothered to respond? Why had he even bothered to go? Oh yeah, that's right. Karkat loved Terezi. He would try to support her in anything that would make her happy.
Dave and the officiant walked down the aisle to the altar. The officiant told everyone to rise.
The music began. Terezi slowly walked down the aisle. As she passed Karkat, she turned toward him and smiled. Karkat thought she looked beautiful. No, not just beautiful. Stunning.
Karkat tried to relax a little during the beginning of the ceremony, but he felt like…like he needed to, well, pay attention. Neither Terezi nor Dave were looking at each other with much admiration—well, at least they seemed like they weren't due to Terezi being blind and Dave almost never having a facial expression.
He needed to do something. But…it was too late, wasn't it? Terezi couldn't make a mistake like this. She just couldn't.
"…and if anyone has a just reason for why this marriage should not take place, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
Karkat straightened his back. Had he really just heard what he thought he heard? …let them speak now or forever hold their peace…
He slowly stood up, soaking up everyone's gasps of horror. All eyes were on him. But he didn't care. All he cared about was Terezi.
"Terezi," he uneasily began, "don't…don't do this. This is a mistake. I…I've always loved you, and I always will."
Terezi was open-mouthed. She turned back to Dave. "I'm…I'm sorry," she said, "…but I can't do this because…because I don't love you."
She let go of Dave's hands and ran down the aisle to Karkat. She grabbed his hand and yanked him up from the pew.
"C'mon!"
