Purgatory is a bitter world that wants you to go mad

Now you hear tell of an angel and a human in its grasp
Hope is extinct, but now you have a purpose, a task
He wants the angel to go with you, so you'll find him
You'll fight and you'll bleed, but now you have them
The doorway is close, and your friend had promised you
There's a risk to this game, but what else can you do?
Put your life in his hands and believe he won't fail
(Though you're braced and ready should he bring you betrayal)
Your voice is slow and deep, a low, honeyed tone
And now look, you're out but you have no home
He has his brother, so your family will be your sun
Until danger and misdeed and you lose another loved one
You can tell he's protecting his heart so that no one can break it
Oh, but you can see that it's too late, for the angel didn't make it
Now you're on your own, and the hunger sinks in deep
Bringing you to a place that's dark and you can't sleep
It's eating at your mind because it's never really fed
Now he asks for your favor and then cuts off your head
His brother is in peril and you have no choice
It's either live like this forever or succumb to the noise
He wants your help, and the monster wants prey
(Though even were you sane, you would have done it anyway)
Back into the darkness that you can never escape
Back into the cage because there's a chance you'll break
You're left with bloody earth and relief that you're not hungry anymore
Now his brother is free, and the blood staining dark ground is yours.
