Written for Caesar's Palace's challenge called Alphabet Game 2.0 (the prompt was nemesis).

They've been moved around the chessboard for decades, and when they finally are free to speed across itself themselves, they have no idea what to do. With the nemesis gone, how much can there be left? They've been playing heroes for the capital, traitors by the districts for decades, and when they're allowed play as people, what do they do?

Without much thought, they go back home.

At first, they don't go where they first met as two explorers on a rocky beach teeming with adventurers. Annie used to love the water, before the incident. And Finnick always loved caves, before they reminded him of tunnels (he bears a limp and a few prosthetics as a reminder). But Annie wants to love the water again.

He tiptoes to the edge of the sea, his curious toes tasting the water, and she follows close behind, hanging into his arm as if it's the only one he has left.

When she leaps into the water, shouting and jumping, laughing, the seagulls are triumphant.
