A Fond Goodbye.

'Mike and Andrea talk before her upcoming deployment.'

I have not written in what feels like forever, but this was requested! It is pretty short, but I hope it's good enough, and who knows, this may get me back into the swing of things? With the few promotion clips I have seen I do have a horrible feeling we won't see much of Andrea, but still, I am excited!

I don't even know what to class this as, but it's Mike and Andrea, maybe Mike being a little out of character, but I think it's an easy read! So, enjoy and let me know is this is terrible.

Disclaimer – I own nothing.

"You know I'll be fine, right? It's not like I am completely new to this, maybe a little, but it's not like I'm sixteen and have just been drafted." Andrea said as she gave Mike a knowing look from where she was sat on the couch.

It had almost become routine, the mandatory talk about her deployment, while he stayed on dry land, serving as Tom's second. Which for him, wasn't anything new, it was everything he did at sea, just on land, with half decent coffee, a nice bed to sleep in and a/c in the summer.

"I know, I trust you, and I know you can do it, it's just, this war still isn't over." Mike shrugged, as he carried on waking around her living room.

"Oh, so this is personal, or is it jealousy?" There was a playfulness to Andrea's tone as she smiled, hoping to get some kind of reaction from him.

She was happy about deploying, despite all Mike had said about this still being a war, and how even years after the Red Flu things were still not right, but Andrea wanted this. She felt she'd been benched last time, and now, she was going back out there, doing what felt right, as much as she knew Mike would try to talk her out of it, in his own special way, she knew she was still going.

Mike didn't answer her, but he did sit down next to her on the couch.

"You deserve this, and I do trust you. But, we've only just gotten back to normal, and now you're leaving again."

Andrea couldn't help but smile. "Mike, your heart is showing."

"Only for you. But, Andrea, in all seriousness, I am happy for you, and proud, but like anyone who loves someone, I don't want to lose you, not after I've just gotten you back," Mike sighed.

"But, because I know you, and because I know you'd kill me, I will stop going on about it."

"Killing you seems a little extreme but I may do a little damage to your reputation. Mike, believe me, if I could stay here and we could work all of this out I would, but I am not going to pass up on this opportunity, like you said the war still isn't over, and I want to be a part of this fight, just like you have and just like Tom has. It's that simple, besides, I need you on dry land in case anything happens to me, who else is going to praise me in my eulogy?"

Mike glared at her, but Andrea knew he could take the joke.

Silence settled around them, both on the couch, sitting a little closer than was maybe necessary, but it was comfortable for the both of them.

"So, Commander Slattery, if you really are that happy for me, and that proud, why don't you make a point of showing me?" Andrea asked, giving him a look that he knew all too well since beginning their relationship. "Because, I am sure you're aware, eight months is a pretty long time to be at sea, and to be alone of course,"

"I always thought the term was making up for lost time?" Mike asked, watching as she shrugged and got up.

"I mean, if you're not interested, that's fine," Andrea let out a small scream as Mike pulled her back down onto the couch.

"Who said I wasn't interested, Commander Garnett? Besides, I am always one for fond goodbyes."
