They didn't remember.
They didn't remember to love their boy.
Link screams.
A flash of him in the cell.
His own people.
Leaving him.
He's there right now.
They don't remember,
he can't forget.
Link's own people leaving him
in that cell
as a terrified boy.
With chains on his arms
that would start to make him bleed.
With chains on his feet
that would make him bleed too
and make him feel
like he could never run anymore.
They turned around and left that boy
with his arms up in despair,
no puzzles for his mind to solve
except the ones with no solutions:
why? why are you hurting me?
what would make you want
to come back and save me?
how can I get out?
why won't you help?
Dagi, what's going on?
his mind can't
solve those
puzzles.
-
His heart terrified with loneliness.
They forgot to love their boy.

Author's Note: Dagi is Lord Dagianis, who according to the original story framed Link for some unnamed crime and got him put in here. In my interpretation, they were also childhood friends. That's why I gave him the nickname.
If you have not yet read the manga 'The Legend is Born!' in the book Hyrule Historia that came out for The Legend of Zelda's 25th anniversary five years ago, find yourself a copy and read it right now.
That manga is gorgeous and heartbreaking. It's also the basis for this poem, and for my novel 'Lion' that I'll start to post this year or next, as soon as it's finished.
Read the manga if you haven't. You will not believe how bad Link's arms looked in those chains.
I hope it makes you as furious as it does me.
Thank you for reading! Long live the Land of Hylia!
