Prologue
"Grandfather!" I call reaching my hand out towards him. My other arm wrapped around a tree as the world rumbles around me. My grandfather glances at me for a brief second, sadness in his eyes as the world burns around us.
The creatures that have attacked us charge in one big legion. They're features are so horrific that I can't bear to even look at them as they charge screaming at us. A thought comes to my mind, What did we do to deserve this? What have the people of Lorien done to be attacked so brutally? Thousands of my people are dead. Hundreds more die every minute.
My grandfather lifts his hands up and then wings them down, yelling with exertion as the earth before him explodes and rains down in large boulders on our enemies. He runs up to me and flings me over his shoulder. "Where are we going?!"
"I have to get you to safety," My grandfather says. "I have to save you." He runs at high speed away from the house I grew up in. It's then that a large fireball collides with the house and it erupts into flames. I start to cry. My whole ten years of life were engraved into that house, and now these monsters have taken it away.
"Where's Grandmother?" I call over the screams and explosions.
"She's in the sky, she'll be fine. We have to get you to Ghalt!" Ghalt is my Cepan, my best friend and mentor. Grandfather jumps away from a wall of fire that singes the arm of my shirt. I look to the skies and see a figure flying above us, Grandmother.
"Ghalt!" I hear Grandfather shout and look over my shoulder. Ghalt is standing behind some fallen rubble with an strange weapon aimed at the attackers. "Ghalt! Over here! Come and get Adn!" Grandfather sets me down behind the rubble.
"Gavon, what do we do?" Ghalt asks Grandfather.
"Get Adn to that ship." Grandfather replies.
"But it's meant for only the Ni-"
"I don't care!" My grandfather shouts. "You have got to get him on that ship!"
"What ship?" I ask.
My Grandfather looks down at me, and then kneels so that we're both eye to eye. "You are going to get on a ship and get away from here before it's too late." He takes off a pendant that he's worn for as long as I can remember and puts it round my neck. "Always remember that your grandmother and I loved you."
"Grandfather, no, you both have to come with me." I say, my eyes darting fearfully between Grandfather and Ghalt.
Grandfather rubs his hand through my hair and smiles. "Ghalt, take him, now." He stands and jumps over the rubble. "I'll distract them!" He calls over his shoulder and picks up a piece of rubble with his mind.
"Grandfather, no!" I call.
"Go!" He shouts and I feel Ghalt wrap his arms around my waist and pull me up onto his shoulder.
I struggle to get free. "No! Let me go! Grandfather!"
Ghalt grips me tightly and runs away from him. The ground around my grandfather erupts and flies around him. Smashing into the aliens and making a sort of shield between us and them. That's when the huge ball of fire hits the ground near my grandfather and the world becomes nothing but heat and light.
