Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter
She was the kind of girl who had her heart practically falling off her sleeve. She gave too much, laughed too loud, and cared too much. Her smiles always seemed to reach her eyes. Her heart was a fragile one. She'd soldier on but eventually the bad in the world would overwhelm her. Her heart was easy to break.
And he hated that.
He was the type who talked only out of necessity. He was cold. Others would talk he would listen. This is how he functioned. He could count the times in his life that he'd smiled. He never saw much to smile about. That is until he'd seen her.
They were different. She was fire. He was ice.
He hated when she cried, but she'd cry on the same day, every week, at the same time. Of course she didn't know this. To her she just needed a break. He knew she could only take so much in the world without emptying it sooner or later. She was too good. She melted the walls he had built. Gave a fire to his almost drowned life. She was different compared to the blond hair, pale skin he was used to. She was the bright summer against the winter he'd known.
He slowed things. All she had to do was look at him and the fire that was building up trying to destroy her, died down. She knew she was fragile. Knew she would eventually give out. It hurt to cry. She'd never liked it. She saw the stormy, gray eyes and suddenly things were not quite as bad, not quite as hectic.
Rose kept Scorpius human. Scorpius kept Rose burning. Scorpius would eventually freeze. And Rose would eventually burn out. They just worked. No one really understood. They'd walk to classes together and study together. Sometimes other students would see them out by the lake in the middle of winter just holding each other. To them they were safe. To others they were different. No one thought they'd last. Too nice to say no to Scorpius. Maybe another one of Scorpius' flings. They all had their opinions. But of course they stayed together. All throughout Hogwarts and training. To say some people were surprised would be an understatement. And the day they got a wedding invitation to their wedding, well let's say a lot of bets were paid.
