What if James and Lily Potter didn't get killed?
Chapter 2- The Sorting Hat
He jumped off the train with Ron and Hedwig, Hermione silently following behind. They were greeted by a huge man the size of four normal people standing on top of each other! 'Firs'-years over here please,' he called and all the first years at once followed him. He led them to a set of boats and they got in. 'Forward,' shouted the huge man and at once the boats moved forward. After a few minutes they entered a cliff face. Everyone got out of their boats and followed this man up some stairs into the castle. There they were met by another new face but this time it was a woman. 'Thank you Hagrid, I'll take them from here,' said the women. 'Ok professor McGonagall,' replied the so called Hagrid. McGonagall led them into small chamber and said sternly 'Welcome to Hogwarts, this will be like a second home to you over the years. We are about to go into the Great Hall where you will be sorted into four different houses, they are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. These houses will be like your family so be nice to them. Now I am going to check if we can enter, you may want to tidy yourselves up,' then she left them in the chamber.
'So what are we meant to do when we get sorted?' asked Ron. 'My brothers said something about fighting a dragon but I think they were joking!'
'I don't know,' replied Harry. 'My mum and dad have talked about the houses, they were both in Gryffindor, but I never asked how you got sorted.' Just then Professor McGonagall walked in and said 'Follow me everyone you are now going to be sorted.' They were led into a spectacular hall that seemed to have no ceiling it just looked like the sky. There was one big table at the top which is where the teachers sat and four tables below which Harry guessed were the house tables. At the front of the hall was a stool with a hat on it which everyone seemed to be staring at. Then Professor McGonagall read out a long list of names and the hat decided which house they would go in. When 'Granger Hermione' got called Hermione ran up to the stool and crammed the hat on her head. 'Hermione what a pretty name, where to put you, your brain works well so Ravenclaw would be good but then I see a lot of courage in you as well so for that I think I'll put you in GYRIFFINDOR!' Hermione ran up to the Gryffindor table and got congratulated by Percy Weasly. 'Longbottom Neville' went to Gryffindor too. 'Malfoy Draco' went to Slytherin and others went to Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Then McGonagall called 'Potter Harry.' Harry slowly walked to the stall and put it on his head the last thing he saw were hundreds of eyes staring at him. 'Harry Potter, son of Lily and James Potter, you would do well in Hufflepuff but I think you should follow in your parents footsteps GYRIFFINDOR!' Harry went to join Hermione and was also congratulated by Percy. There were only five children left when Ron got called up 'Another Weasly I see well there's only one place to put you GYRIFFINDOR!' Ron came and sat between Harry and Hermione and then, in the blink of an eye the table filled with food.
