Hiccups

AU: Percy goes to the library *gasp* and is struck down with a terrible case of the hiccups. How can a random blonde stranger help him?

In the New York Public Library, a boy with black hair and sea green eyes, struggled over an encyclopedia about Greek Mythology. He had an essay do the next day, and his procrastination wasn't helping.

"Come on, Percy," The boy whispered quietly to himself. "You're sixteen years old, and you have managed to read harder things than this with Dyslexia." Percy bent over his books again. The good thing is, he thought to himself, that nothing could possibly get worse! Too late, he noticed his mistake. Percy looked down at his paper he was sloppily writing. Mr. Brunner, his elective, Greek Mythology, teacher, probably wouldn't be too happy. Percy's eyes fell on an article about the goddess Nemesis.

"She's probably laughing at me right this instant," Percy said. Then he saw that Nemesis could have the power to bring down on him such bad luck, he would never guess the correct answer on a test again. Percy started praying like crazy. He felt pretty stupid, Oh, great goddess Nemesis, please don't give me more bad luck, help me. Please? I'll create a beautiful painting of you in art class, and I'll make a burnt offering to you tonight. It turns out, the great goddess Nemesis didn't want a "beautiful" hand painted Percy masterpiece (she really didn't, Percy had worse art skills than a pre-preschooler and finger paint)

Percy felt a tightness in his chest. Oh, please no! No, no, no! "Hic!" Percy hiccuped so loudly, that a few people in the library turned to look at him. He blushed and went back to his books.

In a far corner of the library, a blonde haired, gray eyed girl heard the distant sounds of a soft, hic, hic, hic, groan. Annabeth tried to ignore it, and went back to reading her unabridged copy of Words of the World. She really didn't believe it had all the word in the world, because she was yet to find zarf, a noun that is the the cup-shaped holder for a hot coffee cup that keeps you from burning your fingers. Annabeth sighed sadly, now people just called them "those little cardboard things"

Annabeth's thoughts were interrupted by a loud hic! Annabeth sighed and got up. It took a matter of seconds to find the hiccuping boy.

Percy first saw the girl out of the corner of his eye. She was pretty, with honey blonde hair with princess curls and stormy gray eyes. She had a HUGE book clutched in her arms and was storming over to him. Uh oh, Percy thought. She looked smart, and Percy figured that his hiccuping wasn't helping her read her book.

"Why are you here?" She demanded. Percy gulped.

"I, um, uh… I'm researching for my report on minor Greek gods and goddesses for a-a class r-report" Percy stuttered. The girl scared him.

"I guess any pursuit of knowledge is a valid one, but why are your hiccups so loud?" The girl asked. Percy shrugged, and the ice was broken.

"My name's Annabeth Chase," she said, and stuck out her hand for a shake. Percy stared at it.

"You mean THE Annabeth Chase? The girl who single handedly won every single brain game in the district?" Percy gaped. Annabeth nodded, proud that her fame has reached all over New York.

"Well, I'm glad you know me, now who are you?" She asked.

"I'm Percy Jackson," Percy said. Annabeth smiled.

"Percy, huh? Nice name. Did your mother name you after the Greek hero?" She asked. Percy nodded, suddenly more animated.

"Yeah, she said since he was pretty much the only Greek hero who didn't die a tragic death, she hoped his good luck would rub off on me," Percy said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Even though people tell me I'm more like a son of Poseidon, than Zeus."

"You're a Greek Geek, too?" Annabeth asked. Percy nodded.

"That's why I'm in a Greek Mythology class."

"Oh." Annabeth felt slightly stupid, but she pretended she didnt. She pulled up a chair and sat down. A few minutes later, Percy groaned. "Do you need any help?" Percy looked at Annabeth and bit back a retort. He nodded. "Here, let me help."

When Percy turned in his report, the class was astounded, Percy got the highest grade in the class! Percy smiled and said he had some help. Soon, the brilliant Annabeth Chase transferred schools, and no one was surprised when she took credit for helping Percy Jackson with his homework. There was only one question left, why did she change schools? All for one person, Percy Jackson. And to think, the reason they met- officially- was because of a stubborn case of the hiccups.
