She's begun to think of herself as a secret agent, what with her quiet skulking around. She pads through the halls of her home with steps as soft as a cat, deathly afraid of alerting anyone—him—of her presence.
When she goes out these days, her smiles are patently false, and her emotions covered. She hates herself for it, sometimes, but fuels her efforts with his rare smiles and the genuine emotions of the girl she has conceeded the Victory to.
And, even if Mei Ling leads a covert life, she accepts it; it's better than Xiao Lan's hatred.
