White Swan

The rain pounded against the boulders, waves crashing violently against the coast of Gibraltar. Among the rocks sat a woman who would be considered a oddity upon society. Even in a world where sentient robots existed she was still an anomaly.

"Good evening Mr and Mrs Lacroix, white or red wine for you?" The waiter asked the couple sitting at the table. "White is fine" Amelie responded her husband nodding his head in agreement. Gerard was on leave currently, deciding to take his vacation to him and his wife's home country France. Amelie's slender fingers wrapped around the wine glass raising it to her husbands for a toast. "For the good health of my beautiful wife" Gerard announced the glasses clanking together.

The Frenchman rose from his seat grabbing his wife's pale hand. "Shall we dance mon petite cygne." he remarked pulling her toward the ballroom floor. Amelie's face lit up in adoration nodding her head quickly. The little things that Gerard did whether from nicknames, or just simply the fact she knew he would quite literally die for her in a second if asked.

Die for her

The couple moved in harmony together. Slow, fluidly as two souls in complete harmony, in tune with the slow music being played by the orchestra. Amelie's eyes were locked with Gerard's the man leaning in as the couples lips crashed together in passion. Amelie's vision faded in front of her going to black

She opened her eyes to find herself in the bedroom feeling something warm amongst her hands in the dark. Slowly raising her slender fingers she saw red. Red as the roses that Gerard always gave her, the flower vibrant with color and life. Slowly in horror Amelie looked down to see a knife in her other hand, the cold metallic steel being opposite to the warm red blood on her other hand. The woman shook her husband violently, hoping for any signs of life, something even a breath! Tears rolled down her pale skin in waves as she realized what she had done. Amelie had killed him, her own husband. He lie dead underneath her "GERARD" the frail woman yelled out into the black night over and over again sobs racking her small body. Again and again she screamed, but her voice would never be answered

Amelie's eyes opened, the rain splattering against her cold blue skin. She looked over the desolate cliff seeing the waves slam into the shoreline over and over, unending, relentless. Amelie raised her arms slowly above her head beginning to dance. The movements of a beautiful ballerina emblazoned against the gray world around her, her arms like wings a bird soaring harmoniously through the sky. All the emotions, repressed for so many years washed over her all at once coalescing into a beauty of life. Gerard was gone, she was responsible for the death of hundreds of people, all by the hands of Talon. Life was a cruel mistress but also beautiful all at once. Amelie's legs maneuvered toward the edge of the cliff her arms in synch with her entire body. Bowing to the curtain call she leapt her arms spread almost as if she was soaring across the sky.

The woman fell. Her heart beat rapidly as she looked upon her incoming death in the ocean below. She wasn't afraid however, Amelie accepted what life had given her.

Today Amelie was no longer the heartless spider.

She was a beautiful white swan
