Jinora was having nightmares. Every time she closed her eyes she saw Kai falling out of the sky, trying to distract Lin Gua. She would wake in a cold sweat screaming Kai's name. On one of those nights Kai had gone into the kitchen looking for a midnight snack. That's when he heard her scream.

Kai raced to Jinora's room. Once Jinora saw Kai standing in her room she immediately felt better. She remembered where she was and that her nightmare had happened in the past, but it had happened. Kai came over to her and sat next to her.

"Hey," spoke Kai softly," you want to tell me what's wrong?" Jinora sat there for a minute in silence wondering whether to tell him or not. Finally after a few minutes Jinora decided.

" I had a nightmare." Jinora said simply," I saw you falling when Lin Gua shot you out of the sky…. I've been having these dreams for a while now and I don't know why." Suddenly she broke down in tears. " For what seemed like forever I thought you were dead." She sobbed. Kai was surprised by her sudden outburst.

"But I'm not." replied Kai gently," I'm here with you, and I'll never leave you." Kai hugged Jinora; causing her to tense, then relax and hug him back. They sat there together for a while until Jinora fell asleep in Kia's arms. When her breathing was calm Kai laid her down on her bed and covered her. Quietly Kai got off her bed and crept out of her room. The midnight snack completely forgotten, Kai went back to the boys dormitory and fell asleep.

The next day during practice neither of them could look at each other without blushing. Finally they got over their shyness and sat with each other during lunch. At first they just sat there quietly eating, then Jinora broke the silence.

" Thanks for what you did last night." Jinora said said softly like she was scared of being of being overheard.

"No problem," replied Kai," I'll always be there for you." Then, after realizing what he had said ,he blushed profusely. " Um I have to, um, I'm finished so I better get back to practicing." Kai said hurriedly. He quickly got up, threw away his partially eaten food and ran of down the hallway. After Kai was gone Jinora sat there trying to understand what had just happened.

After she finished her meal Jinora went to the meditation pavilion to try and make sense about everything that had just happened. She sat cross-legged and eyes closed focusing on what had happened. Trying to see it in another's perspective, not her own. She had a hard time with this, and when she finally had concentrated she was interrupted.

"Mind if I join you?" questioned a deep voice. Her father.

"Sure." Jinora replied without opening her eyes. She wondered if he would speak or just sit there with her.

"What's on you're mind, I hardly ever see you here anymore." spoke Tenzin." You always seem to be practicing."

" I'm just trying to understand something that's been on my mind." Jinora replied. She didn't know where her father was going with this talk.

" I've seen you spending some time with a boy." said Tenzin carefully stated.

"Oh you mean Kai," Jinora said hurriedly, " yeah he's nice." Tenzin didn't pry farther. The two just sat there quietly thinking about what was just said. Wondering what was going on the others head. Finally after a while Jinora got up leaving her father and went to the girl's dormitory. She didn't realize how long she had been meditating; it was nearly dark. As she fell asleep she wondered what her father had wanted her to say, asking her about Kai. She decided to worry about tomorrow.

Jinora woke to the sound of rocks thrown at her window. She felt like she had just gone to sleep a few minutes ago. She went over to the window and peered out. She looked around and finally saw the person throwing the rocks in a tree.

"Finally you woke up!" whispered Kai, " I was starting to run out of rocks!" Jinora was very surprised to see him up in a tree.

"What are you doing Kai?" Jinora practically yelled.

" Sshhuusshh!" whispered Kai," I thought we could have a breakfast picnic… in a tree."

" Sure Kai." replied Jinora. She jumped out the window and landed in the tree like a leopard. She sat down on the branch and Kai unwrapped the bundle of food. For a while they just sat there and ate, watching the sun rise. It was peaceful. There weren't any yelling siblings or random gusts of air blowing at them. It was so quiet.

After a while Jinora leaned against Kai's shoulder. They both sat there in the peacefulness of the moment. They never wanted it to end.
