Just a quick one-shot based on something that happened to me recently.
I know the way the dog ends up acting at the end isn't exactly realistic for when a dog meets someone new, but I'm basing it on how the dog she's based on acts around people that I've seen her interact with. She barks at people, but never moves to attack or anything unless they threaten her family, which I haven't seen, only heard about when someone tried to break into their house when no one but her were home.
Disclaimer: I don't own 'VicTORious' or the characters.

Making their way home, twenty-four year olds Tori Vega and her girlfriend Jade West make their way to their duplex. Walking around to the back entrance, the front for the tenants of the apartment above them, the bottom entirely theirs, they stop when they see that the door is wide open.
"Didn't you close it when we left?" Tori asks, fear in her voice.
"Of course I did." Jade says, slightly irritated that Tori would ask that, especially considering the neighborhood they live in isn't the best of L.A. "I made sure before we left. You saw me jiggle the handle after closing it." She points out, slowly sliding her scissors from her boot as she makes her way stealthily to the screen door.
"What if someone's in there?" Tori asks, grabbing Jade's free hand and holding it tight.
"Then the cops will arrive to a murder scene instead of an attempted break in." Jade says simply, the hand with her scissors reaching for the door.
"Let me call my dad." Tori says. Hearing the fear in Tori's voice, Jade stops and turns, nodding when she sees how shaky Tori is.
"Fine. Call him." Jade says, taking a step back to stand beside her girlfriend of of seven years. "Let's wait in the car for now." She says softly, holding Tori's hand as the half-Latina uses her other hand to fish out her phone.
"Thank you." Tori says as Jade unlocks the car, the former Goth taking the driver's seat and Tori quickly taking the passenger's seat, closing and locking the door behind her. "Dad? Can you come over? I think someone broke into our house." She says into her phone a moment later.
"Put him on speaker." Jade suggests, her right hand rubbing circles on Tori's left thigh to calm her.
"Is there any sign of a break in?" David Vega asks, concern for his daughter and her girlfriend.
"None I could see. But we just got home, and Tori didn't want me to go in to check in case someone was in there and they had a gun." Jade says, letting out a sigh. "From what I could tell about the screen door, no. But the door is wide open, and we always make sure it's closed and locked fully before leaving." She says, looking into Tori's fear filled eyes.
"I'm on my way." David says, hanging up.
"I know this isn't the best neighborhood, but I never thought someone would break into our house in the middle of the day." Tori says, grabbing Jade's hand and pulling her over into a sideways hug.
"Neither did I." Jade says truthfully. "How long do you think it'll take for you dad to get here?" She asks, keeping an eye on the open door in case anyone tries to leave or enter it.
"I don't know. I think he's still at the station, so maybe a few minutes. But if he's out on parole, who knows?" Tori says, her head in Jade's shoulder.
"You'll be fine." Jade says, rubbing Tori's back, her eyes on the rear view mirror where she can see the door. "If someone is in there, they can't get out without us seeing them. And if there is someone, I promise you he won't touch you." She says, letting out a breath.
A moment later, Jade sees a cop car drive up and stop behind them. Watching as David Vega and his partner Gary, Jade whispers to Tori that her dad is there.
"Tell us what you saw before you called." David says, pulling his daughter into a hug.
"We were walking to the porch when Tori saw the stove, which isn't possible with the door open." Jade starts, rubbing Tori's lower back. "I went to check it out, but Tori stopped me in case someone was there and she didn't want me getting hurt." She continues. "She called you when we got to the car and I locked the doors." She finishes, looking at the officers in front of her.
"Okay." David says, gently pushing Tori away by her shoulders to look her in the eyes. "You stay here with Jade. Go in the car. Gary and I will go in and check it out." He tells his daughter, using his thumb to wipe away a tear.
"Be safe." Tori says, leaning into me when I pull her into a hug.
"I will." David assures her, nodding to Gary as he turns around, the two of them heading to the door.
Jade and Tori watch as they carefully go in, Gary opening the door to allow David to sneak in, his gun drawn in case of an intruder. As the two cops search the building, Tori and Jade watch the door, waiting for any sign.
Less than ten minutes later, David and Gary walk out, holstering their guns.
"Well?" Jade asks when the two officers get within a few feet of them.
"Nothing. No sign of forced entry, none of the windows were opened or anything. Your flat screen t.v. is still in the living room, as well as your XBox One and PS4." David says, hugging his daughter again. "Go through the house and see if anything is missing, out of place, anything, then call me or Gary. Understood?" He tells Jade, locking eyes with her.
"Of course." Jade says with a nod.
"Okay. As soon as you get in, close and lock the door. Deadbolt it." Gary says, watching the two girls and his partner. "Are you allowed pets?" He asks, noting how there was no sign of a dog in there with them.
"Yeah. Why?" Tori asks from her father's shoulder.
"Get a dog. One that can guard you while you're there, and to guard the house when you're not." David says, knowing why Gary asked. "For one thing, a thief will tend to avoid a house if there's a dog for fear of the dog attacking or alerting the neighbors. For a second, if a thief will still try to break in, the dog can stop them." He says, pushing his daughter to her girlfriend.
"Got it. Beck's still in contact with the owner he gave the Rottweiler to after it attacked his dad. Beck told us he had puppies a few months ago, so we'll see if we can but one from the guy and train it." Jade says, holding Tori close, tightening her grip on the half-Latina's waist.
"Good. Also, get some security cameras and a security system to be safe. They're costly, but effective." David says, giving his daughter one last hug before going to his car.
"Got it." Jade says as Tori nods.
As the cop car pulls away, Tori and Jade quickly head into the house, Jade making sure her car is locked before closing the door. Doing as they were told, the make sure the door is closed fully and the locks on the doorknob and the deadbolt are locked, Jade making sure by tugging on the handle and trying to twist it a few times.
"Let's go check to see if anything's missing. Then we can call Beck and a security team." Jade suggests, looking around to see if any of the expensive china, a gift from Tori's mom when they moved in three years ago, were missing, smiling when she sees they're still in the cupboard.
After searching the house, both women inform the other that nothing seems to be missing. Wasting no time, Jade calls Beck as Tori calls Sinjin, asking him to come over and set up cameras at the door and windows, which he quickly agrees to.
By nine o clock that night, there is a small camera aimed at the door, and a few others aimed at the windows big enough for someone to slip through. After showing the girls how to check the cameras with their phones, Sinjin leaves, not bothering to try hitting on Jade because of how freaked out Tori still is and how angry Jade is at someone scaring her girlfriend so much.
"What's the deal on the dog?" Tori asks after Sinjin pulled away.
"Beck said the last of the pups were already sold, just waiting for their new owners to pick them up." Jade says, sitting on the couch beside Tori, pulling the tanned woman into a hug. "He told he'll call around, asking if anyone has a good guard dog for sale. He said he'll call me if he hears anything." She says, laying her head on Tori's after Tori lays her head on Jade's shoulder.
"I hope he finds one." Tori says with a sigh, her energy depleting quickly.
A few days later, Beck calls to tell them he's found a dog. Later that day, he stops over with the dog, a full grown Blue Nose female Pitbull named Diamonte.
"She's perfect." Jade and Tori say when the dog acts friendly towards them, but protective when someone walks down the street.
That's it for this one-shot. It's based on that when my mom and I got home last night, our back door was wide open and we always make sure it's closed and locked before we even take two steps away from the door. The situation was the same, nothing was missing or anything, but it is still a fear, especially when you live in a neighborhood where two of your neighbors are drug dealers, and one of them was way too curious about what was going on.
The Pitbull Diamonte is a real dog. She's my sister-in-law's dog and she's very friendly. I tend to either have Diamonte sit on me, or occasionally fall asleep on my lap, when I go over to visit. She does bark when people knock on the door, but she never attacks them or anything, since she either recognizes them or my sister-in-law or brother open the door and let them in. I haven't seen her attack before, not counting a dog toy bag for Christmas which resulted in very little of the bag and some of the toys to still be in one piece by the end of the night, but I can imagine she would if someone broke into their house, especially with my one and a half year old nephew there.
Sorry, random fact about Diamonte.
Thank you for reading, and please review.
Blessed Be.
