Missing scene in HBP after seeing Bill in the hospital and McGonagall's line, "Dumbledore would have been happier than anyone to think that there was a little more love in the world."

A Little More Love in the World

Ron, Hermione, and Ginny headed out of the hospital wing after saying their goodnights to everyone. The Fat Lady was absent from her portrait, which was swinging freely open. Ron had been thinking hard on that last thing McGonagall had said, "Dumbledore would have been happier than anyone to think that there was a little more love in the world."

"A little more love in the world." he muttered thinking about how he had came to realize that he loved his best friend, Hermione. It had dawned on him how short of time he might actually have with her in the shadow of the upcoming battle. " Hermione," he half-whispered just as she was following Ginny into the common room, "stay out here for a second, there's something I need to tell you." He had lost any trace of fear or doubt tonight. For it did not matter to him whether or not she reciprocated his feelings all that mattered was that she knew, knew he always would love her. Be there for her.

"What is it Ron?" Her voice sounded raspy, as if she hadn't used it for a long while. "Hermione Granger, there's something I need to say. I need you to listen okay?

She nodded, a puzzled look was on her face. "Hermione, I love you." Her mouth dropped open slightly and she looked like she was about to say something. "Wait," Ron said, "Let me finish. I will stand by your side through this war and protect you . Even if you don't need me to, even if you don't want me there. I will be there. You don't need to feel anything back, I just wanted you to know that before the war broke out." He turned to leave and before he could make it to the portrait hole a hand held his.

"Ron, I love you too, and nothing will ever change that, not V.. Voldemort, not this war, not anything. I love you. And this world," she grinned, "Could use more love in it." And with that and a simple kiss, the world did indeed have a little more love in it. Love is the greatest power in the world, it is a power the Dark Lord knows not.
