Sometimes Nanao was certain that the twelfth division Captain had inserted something into Shunsui to make him as annoyingly persistent as he was.

Humiliation

When Nanao was greeting the new recruits she preferred it if Shunsui wasn't sitting the in the corner playing his shamisen and drunkenly crooning his love to her.

Gender

The concept that her gender was supposed to be the last thing noticed just didn't sink into some peoples especially thick skulls.

Paperwork

She always knew the perfect thing to get him back for leaving her with all the paperwork. All she had to do was lose a few forms that requisitioned the squad's food and drink.

Shinigami

Deep down they both knew through all the priorities and superfluous attitudes that they were Shinigami and they both had duties to do, and that cut across all the facades they may have raised.

Zanpaktou

The few times that Nanao had seen Shunsui bring his zanpaktou to bankai she knew why he acted the way he did with her. He preferred that side of himself to the other options that existed.

Destiny

It's not something she liked to think about; she had already died, she didn't want to think what was next for her or what the next hard choices might be; who she might leave behind.

Century

Shunsui marked off the day that Nanao had served him for a century, and then he sighed. He was really too old to be remembering time lucidly.

Honesty

Nanao couldn't fault the man; she knew that most times he was brutally honest to a fault.

Friends

She knew that she was the one who had to draw the line between them, and she knew that he'd never help her do it.

Trust

She blushed not at every declaration of love, but every time he put his full trust in her.

Betrayal

She stood steadfast and stalwart through the betrayal that shook Soul Society, and she did it at her captain's side.

Ignorance

She knew he'd never call her ignorant but she knew that he thought she had much to learn still.

Learning

He never thought she'd teach him something too; it surprised him when he realized the truth of it.

Teaching

He swore never to teach Nanao the way his teacher had taught him so many years ago; he didn't want her to have to give up anything that she held dear.

Recruits

If he embarrassed her in front of the new recruits one more time…

Remembrance

She couldn't really remember her human life but she could remember all her life in Seireitei, most of it had been spent in duty at the side of her captain; thus those memories are the ones that populated her mind and those were the ones that she treasured.

Fighting

Nanao was a very precise and calculating fighter, because of that she noticed something about Shunsui when he fought. It seemed like certain aspects of his fighting style projected that it didn't matter much to him whether he won or lost.

Fleeing

He swore he'd never flee a fight however when he was left in charge of Nanao, an unconscious Nanao, he never thought he could move so fast.

Kami

Shunsui liked to say he was Kami's gift to women, and a true Kami when making love. Nanao liked to correct him.
