I do not own Sailor Moon or Inuyasha in any shape or form. I do own my own characters. I also do not own the image.

Act One

'The future was not set in stone'.

Tsukino Usagi remembered those words spoken a few days after the worst battle of her life, the battle with Sailor Galaxia. It had been a battle that had taken everything away from her. No-one really questioned how Usagi had felt during that battle. She had watched her friends' die, their star-seeds taken away, lost. She had been placed in a position she was familiar with, fighting against the very man she had loved so deeply. Sailor Galaxia, a spawn of her ultimate nemesis, forced her to fight against her loyal Sailor guardians, twisting their true-selves. Their bodies disintegrating before her very eyes and it was during that point she wasn't sure she would ever see them again. But hope drove her forward.

During that battle, she came to realise that she would forever be tied to Chaos, a being attracted to her light with a will to re-join the galaxy that no longer wanted it. Chaos, the flip side of the coin, her true other half had called out to her throughout her years as Sailor Moon. It had even tried to reach her when she had been Princess Serenity during the Silver Millennium. No matter what timeline she found herself in, Chaos would find her. It was tied to her in ways she still never fully understood. She knew that she had to embrace it but she was light, the very light that would constantly be at war with it. And yet, Chaos time and time again would always come after her, seeking to destroy her to allow its ascension back into the universe. It was this that made Usagi ponder on Chaos and the light co-existing without the need to battle each other?

Usagi these days often found herself in a speculative mood. Questioning everything that had happened to her and wondering how her life had turned into this. After all she had been through, throwing herself into battles, battling evil itself and yet, the promised future was not really promised, wasn't this something she had known. Pluto had never said her future was guaranteed. Sailor Galaxia appearing the way she did had proven that. Pluto, after a year from the battle with Galaxia, told Usagi the truth about what was happening to Crystal Tokyo. Neo-Queen Serenity had never battled Sailor Galaxia. She didn't know what was going on in the past. All the Sailor Senshi apart from Pluto was unconscious and were disappearing. King Endymion was also unconscious but because Sailor Moon remained alive in the past, Chibiusa was also alive; it meant that their future was still a possibility.

It just proved the future wasn't set in stone. The battle with Galaxia was not something that was meant to happen. It was the very moment Chaos had almost won. Now, years later, Usagi wondered whether because of the change in future, Chaos would return sooner than what Guardian Cosmos had said? Where was Chaos now? How had she managed to diminish it so much that it couldn't rise again in her world? Were they truly safe now? Why had her life changed so much in so short amount of time? Had she not given up enough for her to be allowed some sort of happiness?

What had happened to them all?

Well, Usagi had passed the necessary tests that allowed her to go to University and study Art. She had always loved art being the Manga enthusiast she was. Since she was young she had always read Manga, admiring the stories told and the artwork. Her parents had not been too happy with her choices. They had wanted her to either go Junior College to become a nurse or go and study a science, maybe even technology, purely due to the job market. Usagi, for once, had gone with what she wanted to do. She had pacified them by saying she could become a teacher. Her friends had been in shock that she had passed at all. She was never one for school work but when exams that were important came up, she and Minako both studied for them as education was very important to get a job.

Why had the future changed when it hadn't happened yet? How did she know the future she had hoped for was gone? She was after all only 19 years old just starting University. To know this was to know what had become of them all after the battle with Galaxia.

Normalcy had taken over. Normalcy under any circumstances is usually a good thing but it proved the deadly blow to their futures. Normalcy and Sailor Galaxia's interference had destroyed everything for Usagi.

Kino Makoto had gone to a specialist school for the culinary arts, away from Azabujuban area. It was a decision Makoto had not taken likely but it was her dream. The day she left they had thrown a party for her; Hino Rei had done all the cooking with Mizuno Ami. Minako and Usagi baked a cake together. Next, Mizuno Ami had decided to go to Germany for the year and then complete her studies in Tokyo. Makoto and Ami had only left six months ago and yet, Ami was thinking of studying further in Germany, she loved the place and had even made friends out there.

Hino Rei, Aino Minako and Usagi stayed and studied in Tokyo. Rei had decided to study History and continue her work at her Temple, the Hikawa Shrine. Minako also went into the arts with Usagi but studied Drama. She had dreams of becoming a star, whether that is a movie star or a singer. Due to the fact they took different subjects, Usagi rarely even so her friends at the same University as her. She had made friends and thankfully, Osaka Naru was at the same university as well and it seemed Naru managed to make time for Usagi. Umino went to Kyoto University in the end but he had promised he would marry Naru. Usagi oddly found herself a little jealous but that stemmed from what had happened between herself and Mamoru. But she wished Naru all the happiness in the world.

Meioh Setsuna had finally gone into fashion design and was working for a top fashion designer based in Tokyo. Many of her clients were from wealthy families. Setsuna also had many suitors now; she often now found it irritating but Usagi always told her that she was beautiful. Tenoh Haruka and Kaioh Michiru had gone on tour in Europe, both continuing their professions which their Universities allowed them to do so, with special treatment for the prestige they brought. They wrote to Usagi as often as they could. Usagi got text messages from Makoto and Ami as well. Tomoe Hotaru was in High School now and lived with Setsuna when Haruka and Michiru were away.

Usagi was happy for her friends, she really was. What had hurt her or rather, who had hurt her had only recently come back from the Mamoru, the Prince she had always loved went back to America, with her blessing. He was to be back within the year, like the last time. Setsuna out of all of them had been reluctant to let him go. She had even accused him of selfishness. Usagi knew deep down something was wrong but at the time, she had backed Mamoru. It wasn't until his last phone call that things made sense, and a particular name he kept mentioning rattled her, Junko.

XXX

The first year he had been away had been difficult but she still had her friends and had made a new one, Higurashi Kagome who lived nearly three hours away in Ito, Shizuoka, she had been fourteen at the time and Usagi sixteen so they had been friends a while, but she still counted as a new friend. Mamoru had gone on about how well Junko was doing in her Environmental studies and all the changes she wanted to bring about. Usagi had said Crystal Tokyo would bring true change. Usagi thought Mamoru would agree with her but not this time.

'Usagi, we can't rely on something that hasn't happened yet. We make our own futures' Usagi felt lost for words. Firstly, he had called her by her first name rather than his personal name for her. And then he had dismissed Crystal Tokyo, the very future they had worked hard to protect, the future that guaranteed people true happiness. Or so that was what she had wanted to believe.

'Mamo-chan, I know you want to save the world and you will do' Usagi tried again. She then heard him sigh on the phone. She waited for what seemed like hours but was only a few dreaded seconds.

'Usagi…you can't pin all your hopes on something that may not happen, Setsuna said it wasn't set in stone, nothing truly is. We must just carry on with our lives. You cannot keep on with this dream of yours, you must focus on reality. Maybe we need some real time a part….' Usagi felt everything go into slow motion. The clock, set towards the back of her was ticking away even slower. She only heard the erupting of her kettle and the slow steam that came out, letting you know it was ready.

'You…what….Mamo-chan?' Usagi struggled to put the words together. What was he saying? What was he suggesting?

'We need to focus on our lives as it is now. If Crystal Tokyo is to happen then it will but we can't rely on that. We have a right to live our lives now, you need to live yours and stop living in the past' words, she never knew how much they could stab the heart.

'But our past has helped us to get to where we are now Mamo-chan, doesn't our past mean anything to you?' Usagi asked.

'Of course it does but the past also brings up terrible memories, things I want to forget now. I've been through so much, losing my parents, losing my generals all over again and constantly never being able to truly protect those I care about. It gets tiring and I am tired of it all. I just want to be normal like everyone else' Mamoru had spoken words that he never thought he would, but things had changed for him.

'And that normal life means I can't be in it?' Usagi feared what he would say but she had to ask that question.

'Usako…I am not saying it's all over, just…we need space for now, to allow each other to grow' Mamoru tried to reason. In spite of herself, Usagi winced.

'Is that what Junko told you to say?' There, she had brought up the large elephant in the room.

'Now don't be silly, what are you implying? Junko is a really nice woman and you could learn something from her if you met her which you will, you know she goes to the same university as me' Mamoru sighed again, more in frustration this time.

'I can learn something off her? You know, maybe she could learn something off me but then, you don't believe in me anymore do you? You don't believe in what we protect anymore' Usagi felt frantic but then what else could she feel?

'That is a lie Usagi, I love this planet and would always fight for it. But, we're different people Usagi, you know that and you also know I will always love you. We just need a little space for now' Mamoru stated.

'Are you seeing her? Do you like her more than me?' Usagi wrapper her left hand over her throat as tears poured down her cheeks.

'Usagi,I would never cheat on you. You know that of me, I have always been honourable. Do I admire Junko? Yes I do but I have never done anything with her. I am not happy that you think that low of me' Usagi tried to stop herself from crying, his words had hurt.

'Usagi, we'll discuss this more once I come back, for now, let this be. Continue your studies. Maybe once they are done, we will see what happens but for now, concentrate on your education, it is important to get a good job and make your parents proud. Goodbye Usagi' and with that, the phone link died, along with Usagi's heart.

A few weeks later, Setsuna spoke to Usagi, bringing up that moment before Mamoru left. Usagi had been sixteen years old when Mamoru had separated from her. Setsuna invited Usagi over for some tea. Setsuna still lived in Azabujuban in a spacious apartment; Hotaru had her own room there too. Setsuna sat Usagi down and told her the truth.

'Usagi-chan…As you know, Sailor Galaxia was never meant to be in your timeline, Neo-Queen Serenity didn't know about this. Her appearance has brought about unexpected changes. Mamoru was always going to go and study in America. He was meant to come back and be with you. But he never made that flight, instead he made another one, the one that would change everything' Usagi breathed in deeply as Setsuna carried on.

'Sato Junko is a reincarnation from the time of the Silver Millennium. She had been the same age as Prince Endymion. Her name was Demeter back then, named after the Goddess. She was trained to be a royal advisor and her love for the Kingdom of Earth was well known, Prince Endymion had admired her enough for the Royal Council to suggest their marriage. They were meant to be betrothed and Prince Endymion hadn't been against it. But then you changed her own future. Human tradition back then meant it wasn't uncommon for betrothals to happen. Queen Serenity had given Princess Serenity a choice in her own life but Prince Endymion's wasn't always his to choose'.

In Crystal Tokyo, Junko worked as an advisor to Neo-Queen Serenity, an incredibly loyal servant who worked closely with Sailor Mercury but who also was secretly in love with King Endymion. Great, another woman in love with Endymion. Why did she herself not attract such attention?

'So, it is as you said, the future is not set in stone. Junko has a lot in common with Mamoru…' Usagi admitted.

'That is not strictly true, he does still love you. He will need to work out his own heart on the matter Princess' Setsuna revealed.

'Why is it so easy for me to love him above all else, but difficult for him…I just….oh I am just so tired Setsuna-chan, when will I ever get a happy ending?' and with that, Usagi broke into tears, grieving a love she felt she had lost.

Higurashi Kagome felt so bad for Usagi. She was only fourteen about to turn fifteen but still, she understood Usagi's pain.

'I am sorry Onee-san, he will come back to you I am sure of it, love lasts forever right?' Kagome had taken to calling Usagi older sister because that was what Usagi had become to her, an older sister. Mrs Higurashi had also taken to Usagi and became friends with Ikuko, so Usagi, although living nearly three hours away, often went to visit Kagome. Kagome had met all of Usagi's friends, including Mamoru who she thought was handsome in a princely way. Usagi never told Kagome who they all really were, their identities were to be kept secret. Kagome, when she had turned fifteen disappeared for a while. Usagi had been preparing to continue finishing her studies in Senior High School. Kagome came back mysteriously, claiming she had been away visiting a distant aunty, the same story her grandfather and mother kept to.

'I am telling you Usagi-chan, that girl keeps secrets' Rei had said, eyeing up Kagome from a distance 'But she will be a powerful Miko one day'.

Kagome finished school with top grades. She was meant to choose a university when Usagi was preparing for her second year but she didn't. Instead, she told Usagi she was leaving for good. She then told Usagi the truth about what had happened to her. About Inuyasha, Sango, Kohaku, Miroku, Shippou and Rin. Even a Sesshomaru who she said would be her older brother. She told her about the Bone-Eaters Well and Naraku as well as about a jewel that seemed more controlling if anything, nothing like the Silver Crystal. She told her about Hanyo's and Yokai's, different from Youma. Usagi couldn't tell Kagome that, not yet anyway. She then mentioned Kaede, someone she was sure Rei would be interested in meeting. She then told her about Kikyo, her dead love rival. Junko had become Usagi's love rival and she feared she would lose, but maybe she had lost already.

This was the place Kagome was going back to as the Higurashi well house would only open up once more. Usagi couldn't hold back her tears; she was going to lose another friend. They said their goodbyes to each other.

'Who knows Onee-san, we might meet again, stranger things do happen after all I mean I grew up with Sailor Senshi saving the day…my hero was Sailor Moon ya know. She always saved the day in the end. I got this doll of her which I am taking with me' Usagi had blushed. If only Kagome knew.

Now, here she was, six months on from when Kagome left. Kagome was eighteen when she left, a few months off going to university. Usagi was about to start her second year. Mamoru had returned but he was with Junko still so instead of embarrassing herself, like she did when he had first returned, she kept away from him. He didn't call her and hardly went to the arcade. Their shared friend, Motoki was going to marry Reika, Usagi was sure she would see Mamoru there. When Usagi had got the lovely invitation, it only held her name on it. That told her where she was in her current life, on her own after all the fighting she had been through. So, Usagi continued in her depression as well as going to University and getting good grades. She was exceling in Art, doing paintings that were grabbing attention. All her paintings told a story of forlorn love, heartbreak, loneliness and the search for happiness.

There was one in particular that even grabbed the attention of the president of Japan. It was of a woman with white hair dressed in a plain white dress, light surrounding her. Her smile was sad, her eyes bright but she was on the dirt ground and darkness surrounded her. Atop, standing on what appeared to be a rocky mountain stood a man dressed in black armour with black hair, holding his sword ahead of him, pointing into the unknown with a woman, with black hair also, looking onwards in the same direction, neither noticing the bright light below them, looking up sadly. Many people had different interpretations of the painting, but Usagi wouldn't disclose the story as she herself was unsure what it meant. All she knew was she painted it in one of her dark moments. The painting was bought and fitted into a gallery, being called a modern classic masterpiece. But Usagi took it all in still filled with a void, a large pit in her heart. Mamoru had called to congratulate her, but that was it.

It was on the sixth month of Kagome leaving that Usagi paid a visit to the Higurashi shrine. Not much had changed from what Usagi could see. Higurashi Sota had come out first, now about to turn twelve. Usagi ruffled his hair saying he will be a handsome young man in time. Sota blushed a little as he had a crush on her. Mrs Higurashi came out, still looking as lovely as she remembered.

"Oh Usagi, do come in, I'll make some tea. I was just on the phone with your mother, we're meant to go out shopping soon" Usagi nodded and followed Sota inside.

Around the same time as this, Kagome was sitting down by a little river-stream on her own. Dressed as a Miko now. She still had so much to learn but she was content with that. Sesshomaru had left a few days ago after bringing Rin another Kimono. This one was light blue this time. Sesshomaru would be back soon she was sure. Last time he had been away for three months, battling the best. The time she had been away, monsters kept coming up, providing work for Inuyasha and Miroku. But recently, from what Sesshomaru had said, the monsters are becoming more brainless and vicious. He was certain something was happening but didn't know what. Even some of the Yokai's have been proving more aggressive and attacking people.

So Kagome started to worry for Inuyasha. Only yesterday a monster had tried to attack them. Kagome, being great with her bow and arrow had struck the monster down, but it had taken more work this time, something she was worried about. Looking up towards the cloudless blue skies, she started to think about Usagi, wondering how she was. The last time she had seen Usagi, Usagi looked lifeless almost and so very sad when before, she had known Usagi to be happy, eating everything in sight and falling in love with every cute toy she saw. Wrapping her arms around herself, she suddenly wished Usagi was here with her. She was certain this place would give Usagi the time she needed to gather herself. But how could that be possible. She no longer had the jewel anymore and the Well was closed up. Still, her wish to see Usagi again was strong.

"Oh Onee-san…Usagi-chan….I wish you could be here" she then pulled out her action figure of Sailor Moon. Rin loved the doll very much and it was now rare she could even see the doll anymore. Sighing, she heard the still tiny footsteps of a now eleven year old Rin. Inuyasha was also with her.

"Holding that Sailor Moon doll again?" Inuyasha asked, raising an eyebrow when Rin walked up to the side of Kagome, her eyes on the doll. Rin had even showed the doll to Sesshomaru who, although had showed slight interest in it then disregarded it as nothing more than a doll. How could a woman walk about like that in Kagome's world?

'You have half naked Yokai woman?!' Kagome had yelled, defending her hero.

Kagome gave Rin back the Sailor Moon doll, in return Rin hugged it tightly.

"Rin, why do you like that doll so much?" Kagome asked. Rin, with her eyes still closed answered.

"She's magical. She saves people and she is brave…she can protect Rin like Lord Sesshomaru can and she is really pretty. Rin wishes she could meet her" Rin admitted. Kagome gave a small smile.

"I wish I could have met her too".

Usagi had walked over to the Higurashi well house, staring at the very Well that had allowed Kagome to travel to this other world. It was glowing slightly. Usagi had thought about calling Mrs Higurashi, after she had felt this pull to leave their living room and go out to this Well. She hadn't acknowledged the Silver Crystal had also reacted.

"I wonder how you're doing Kagome-chan? I am not doing so great. My friend, you know, Motoki, he is getting married this weekend and I have been invited but, Mamoru will also be there and I don't know if I want to see him. My friends, I haven't spoken to them in a while, it seems their lives are so busy but I am happy for them, and I am happy for you" Usagi said, her eyes watering again.

'And I am happy for you' Kagome got up and started to look around startling Inuyasha and Rin. Kagome was sure she heard Usagi's voice. Did her wish come true? Is she here?

"Kagome, what is it?" Inyusha asked worriedly until he found himself sprinting after her, heading towards the Bone Eaters well. He could see a faint glow, but that was impossible. It had stopped working, right? But who were they to say if such things were to work or not? These things were beyond their understanding and reach; he had learnt that throughout his battles.

"Kagome runs fast, really fast" Rin said as she panted. They had stopped by the Well, Kagome looking pointedly at it, willing it to work.

On the other side, Usagi tentatively touched the well, attracted to this warm light, it felt like Kagome for some reason. Was she calling her? The moment Usagi touched it, she could have sworn she heard Setsuna cry out 'NOOOOO!' but it was too late, a bright light enveloped Usagi, the Well's doors opened up wide and soon, Usagi found herself being pulled in. Usagi didn't hear Mrs Higurashi, Grandpa Higurashi or Sota calling out to her. Soon, darkness closed in.

A bright light also covered over Rin, Inuyasha and Kagome as the Well doors opened up on the other side. They heard a squeal followed by a thud and a 'humpth'. Once the light had receeded, the Well doors were closed.

"What the hell just happened?!" Inuyasha shouted, wanting to curse someone.

"LOOOK!" Rin yelled, she was pointing at a young woman with a familiar hairstyle Kagome remembered.

"Onee-san….Usagi-chan?".

Hi Everyone,

Well, this is the new story with the same title. I wanted to try and base this in the Inuyasha world more than Sailor Moon's world so we will see how it goes. I just wasn't happy with the last story and this one came out stronger in my mind so I will go with it and hopefully it will turn out better. The chapters should be a little longer too. Apologies it took me so long to put it up, been a rough time of late but hope you all enjoyed the holiday break, can't believe we're in 2019 now...

I am working on the next Act where Usagi will be in for a surprise, see you all soon :-)
