He shifted in his seat, conscious of how loud the creak was and that it carried across the room. Taking an apprehensive look around before receiving a glare from the person overseeing the exam, he turned back to the paper in front of him. He could do this. Absolutely he could do this. There was no reason why he should fail again. The first time was just nerves.

But he knew he was just fooling himself. Of course there was a reason why he failed it the first time, why he would more than likely fail it again. And again, if he wasn't too defeated from the rejection of today's test.

Tightening his grip on his pencil, he released it. The last thing he wanted to do was break another one. Closing his eyes, he reopened them, thinking that maybe that had taken the words and made them right. It didn't work though, only made it worse. Sighing, he filled in his answer, knowing it wasn't right but there wasn't anything he could do about it.

Turning in his paper in, he picked his jacket off the back of the chair, finding his keys, he made his way to his car.

Another defeat. Another step backward. He seemed to be doing that a lot lately.
