We Have A Winner
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Castle asked, a look of concern on his face.
Kate shook her head as she started to get out of the car.
"Sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure." Kate said emphatically.
"Oh, okay." A smile returned to his face chasing away the concern. "Secret women's business is it?"
Kate paused and turned to look at him and could not help but return the smile.
"I have to go an apologise to Lanie for something." Kate explained.
Castle continued to smile and nodded his head in understanding.
"If it's apologies you want I have a whole arsenal of sure fire ones." he offered.
"Thanks but this is one I have to do on my own."
"Okay."
Kate leaned across and planted a quick kiss on his lips.
"I'll see you at the precinct." Kate said as she got out of the car.
Kate stood at the doors that led into Dr Lanie Parish's office. She had been standing there for the past five minutes debating with herself whether to go in or not. She had come to apologise to her friend for standing her up yesterday. Now that she was here she was hesitant. Unsure if she had done the right thing or not.
Finally she bit the bullet. There was no avoiding it. If she did not do it now Lanie would come looking for her. Lanie deserved an apology at the very least. She drew a deep breath and slowly exhaled then pushed open the door and cautiously walked in.
Lanie Parish was at her desk writing up a report.
"Girlfriend you had better have a damn good reason for not showing up yesterday." Lanie said without looking up from her work.
"I'm sorry Lanie." Kate replied as she propped herself against a desk and looked at her friend.
"Sorry aint going to work on me this time, honey, nuh-uh." The medical examiner raised her free hand and waved it. She still had not looked up from her work. "I had the day all planned, brunch and then a whole afternoon of retail therapy. Not a damn word from you, no response to my calls or texts."
"Lanie."
It was the tone of her voice that made Lanie stop what she had been doing. Lifting up her head she turned and looked at Kate. The scowl on the petite face lasted all of a couple of heart beats. She blinked several times. Realisation slowly transformed it.
"Oh my God." Lanie gasped. "Oh my God!"
"What?"
"Don't you what me, Kate Beckett."
"What are you talking about?" Kate said, trying to play coy.
"You did it, didn't you?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Kate said defensively. Her face was beginning to turn a deep shade of red. She bit on her lower lip nervously.
"Don't give me that." Lanie shot back. "You have that 'I've had mind blowing hot monkey-sex with Richard Castle all day and all night' look on your face, girlfriend!"
"It wasn't all day." Kate said meekly, not able to look at her friend.
"All night then?"
"No."
"What?" Lanie suddenly looked confused.
"It...was...all...weekend." Kate confessed sheepishly.
Lanie jumped to her feet.
"Hallelujah and praise the Lord!" She shouted excitedly throwing her arms into the air. "My girl has finally seen the light!"
The medical examiner picked up her phone and punched a number on her speed dial.
"Javie, baby...no more bets." She shouted. "We have a winner!"
Slambing the phone down Lanie raced over to where Kate stood and enveloped her into a fierce hug.
"Details, girlfriend. I want to hear all the details." Lanie said excitedly as she continued to squeeze the life of her friend.
