Voyager was one of my favorite shows. This had been in my head since the show and I did not know that there was a venue for writing these things down. This is perhaps a prologue to what I think may be a longer story, if there is interest.
The Voyager's Sick Bay was in chaos. The doctor was dead and the Emergency Medical Hologram was doing triage on the unending stream of injured coming in. The energy wave had done severe damage to the ship as well as to her crew.
Tom Paris was leaning over a bio bed, using a dermal regenerator on a woman whose face was burned from a plasma explosion at her duty station. He vaguely knew that new patients were pouring in, but he had his hands full and only noticed peripherally when the doors opened again several more casualties entered.
"Ensign Gray hit his head on the bulkhead when the energy wave hit." Tom's head jerked up as his eyes grew wide - he knew that voice; knew it almost better than he knew his own. But it could not be. Not here, not on Voyager. Not stuck here with the rest of the crew.
"I believe he has a concussion. His pupils are dilated and non-responsive and he has been in and out of consciousness for the last half an hour." Although it was tight with stress and, Tom shuddered involuntarily, pain, he could still hear the familiar timbre that, under other circumstances, would sound as if she had a smile on her face and was moments away from laughter.
Tom felt a movement behind him and somebody brushed against him. "I'm sorry," the same voice said.
Tom could stand it no longer. The woman was stable and her burns were healing. He immediately turned around and realized that he was looking down into a pair of blue eyes that were the exact same color as his own. These eyes belonged to a young woman who, at about five and a half feet tall was staring up at Tom's six foot plus frame. Her eyes widened in shocked recognition.
"Tom," the young woman whispered, stunned.
"Tory?" Tom's voice was barely above a whisper as he looked into the face of his little sister.
