He had done it. With all his strength, in a body not of his own, he prevailed. We had won. Kyo had won.

And now, he had his body back at last.

With the Mibu lying in a pit of their own shadow, we left the Castle Town. On our way home…out of the forest, and back through the Sea of Trees.

I remember the place collapsing, the Mibu realm slowly disintegrating, and the clouds erupting in thunder. Even these so-called 'gods' had angered the heavens, it seemed. It was terrifying. All I wanted was to get away from that dreaded place. And so, I kept my eyes focused on the others who were in front of me.

Everything was happening so fast, that I didn't even realize when the group had grown farther and farther away.

I couldn't keep up.

I wanted to shout to them, to tell them to wait, but my voice couldn't raise any farther above the uproar.

Everything was getting foggy. The mist clouded not only my vision but my mind as well, so that now the world around us seemed only as a bad dream…hazy and surreal. I was unable to see…to see them…to see him. My legs attempted to run faster, but it was too late. I was sure of it.

And then I felt a hand reach out and grab my arm. Two red eyes pierced through the thick blanket of dusty cloud so suddenly that I was tempted to scream in surprise. I realized who it was that had come back for me, as he looked down only briefly before running off, pulling me along.

"K-Kyo! Kyo, I can't keep up with you! Slow down, damnit!"

He only ran all the faster.

"Kyo! Just let me go!"

His grip tightened.

"Kyo…"

He wouldn't look back.

"Just shut up and run."

I heard his faint voice ahead of me. Telling me to keep going, to not give up. I listened…

Finding strength in those words, I managed to run faster. Beyond the darkness…the others were waiting.

And together, we escaped that place.

Together we went home.

All of us.

(A/N) Hello! Alright, I know what you're thinking. YES, I haven't written for SDK in a while, and NO, I have not given up on 7 Deadly Sins. I am at a lack of inspiration for that fic, so I decided to get my samurai blood pumping with another story in the meantime. Unlike my other SDK fics, this one is going to be post-series. Yes! You heard me. Post freaking series. Whether post-anime or post-manga, that is completely up to you. And taking into consideration the fact that Samurai Deeper Kyo has not yet ended with the manga, this just might be a teeny weeny bit AU. Cause I'll be frank with you…I have no idea what's going to happen, you have no idea what's going to happen. So let's just leave it at that.
