All His Fault
"Anthony, please come with me and tell. It's just not right what they do," Marietta pleaded.
Anthony bit back a sigh for what seemed like the fiftieth time and replied, "No, Marietta, I'm not going to betray my friends and I actually do want to learn since the so-called Professor doesn't teach us anything."
And for what seemed like the fiftieth time, Marietta did a small nod and walked with him.
Then, the same thing happened a week later.
"Anthony, please! Those little children shouldn't be learning those spells!"
"No, Etta, they should be. I'm not going to rat the trio out," Anthony tried to keep exasperation out of his voice.
"Okay," she quietly replied, linking arms with him and walking to the Room of Requirement.
"Anthony, why don't you EVER want to go with me?" She was nearly to the point of begging.
"Etta, we're Ravenclaws. I have a strong urge to learn as much as I can about anything I can."
She sighed quietly, "Fine."
Somehow, the pleas stopped for about a monh. Then, suddenly they came every day, more and more urgent.
"Anthony, please!"
"No."
"How about today?"
"Still no."
"Pleeeeease?"
"Why are you against it so badly?"
Her lower lip wobbled a little bit, then replied, "My mom is."
Anthony nodded and tried to fight the roll of his eyes.
"Anthony? Anthony! Wait up!"
Finally it was just too much. "WHAT, Marietta?"
She looked at him, slightly shocked. "Will you co-"
"No. Why do you even bother going to the D.A. anyways?"
Marietta looked stuck, "I…..I don't know…"
And she stopped asking.
Anthony finally started relaxing around her again, but then it happened. She actually did tell.
When everyone was back in their common rooms, they were all puzzling over what happened. But, Anthony knew quite well.
It was all his fault. He should have dissuaded Marietta from her absurd idea instead of denying it daily.
Dumbledore's Army had been disbanded because of him.
He felt awful.
