I'm not.
Mac bolted upright at the sound of the telephone. She was breathing hard, perspiration gleaming on her forehead. She had been dreaming. A bad dream. Not a nightmare. A good bad dream. A dream about a guy. The phone rang again and Mac reached a shaking hand out to snatch it.
"Hello?"
"Mac?" The voice was deep and kind and echoed the voice that she had heard in her dream.
"Harm? It's oh three hundred hours. Is everything all right?"
"Yes...well, no. Mac, I need to tell you something." Mac braced herself.
"Mac...I won't lie to you."
"What?" she almost yelled into the phone, confused.
"CIA. I-I won't lie." Mac's mind raced. Was he saying what she thought he was saying? That if she were to ask, he would tell? That he would share all his secrets, that he would...
"Harm, you'd loose your job."
"I don't care. Mac. I don't care about the job. I care about you. I am in love with you, Mac. And I will do anything to prove that to you."
"You called me at 3 o'clock in the morning to tell me that?"
"Yes." There was silence for a long time. Finally, Harm broke it, his voice low and gravely.
"You asked me, Mac, what I would give up to be with you. And it's everything. I would give up everything. My job, my life, anything. All for you." Silence again.
"Anything I have, Mac. For the one thing that I don't." Now he heard something coming from the other line. It was someone crying softly. Mac crying.
"God, Harm..."
"You said that we both can't be on top. That's fine, Mac. You can be. You can be on top; you can be whatever you want. Where ever you want. Just say that you'll be mine."
"Harm-"
"Say that you'll be mine."
"I'll be yours, Harm. God, I'll be yours." Harm was ecstatic. He felt as if he could fly right then. She would be his. She, Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie was going to be his, Harmon Rabb Jr.
"I'm not lying to you either, Harm. I love you. I have for a long time."
" Oh, Mac. Sarah. I'm not ever going to hurt you."
"You better not."
"I'm not. I'm not. I love you." There was a sharp laugh from the other end of the phone.
"Hell of a conversation to have on a phone at 3 in the morning."
"I'm not sorry for it."
"I'm not either, flyboy. Why don't you come over?"
"I'll be there in two minutes."
"You better not drive that fast!" Mac laughed. Harm rolled his eyes.
"I'm not driving any slower. I'm not waiting any longer to see you."
"Good. I'll see you soon. Bye." There was a click on her end. Harm stared at the phone, unbelieving.
"I'm not going crazy. That just happened!" With a loud whoop of joy, Harm jumped out of bed, pulled on jeans and ran to the door.
