"Appearances can be deceiving you know," he said as he took a seat next to her at the bar.

"You startled me," she said as she tore her eyes away from the couple she had been observing. "Am I really that transparent? Here I thought I was being inconspicuous."

"Well if it makes you feel better I don't think they noticed," he said nodding over to where Sonny and Brenda were sitting.

"They're pretty oblivious aren't they?"

"That they are. But like I said appearances can be deceiving. They just got back together, they're still in the honeymoon phase, soon enough reality will hit and then all bets are off." Lucky had seen firsthand the destructiveness of the relationship between Sonny and Brenda and he had no doubt that their happy reunion would be short lived.

"You think so?" she asked with a hint of hope while silently hating herself for being that woman. The woman who pined after the jerk who dumped her, the exact type of woman she used to mock.

Lucky just looked at her and chuckled a bit and felt a little bad as he saw her face fall.

"Ok, so be honest," she said suddenly as sat up straighter and shifted her focus to the man sitting next to her. "How pathetic am I?"

Lucky laughed at that statement and nearly choked on his club soda. "You're not pathetic. This is just Sonny's M.O. He's done it so many times that he probably doesn't even realize he's doing it anymore."

"So basically you're saying that he played me and I stupidly fell for it?"

"Look, I know I gave you a hard time about the cat and mouse game you were playing with Sonny, but I never meant to imply that falling for Sonny meant that you were stupid. I've known Sonny since I was a kid and while I don't approve of many of the things he does, I also know that he's not evil incarnate. He has been known to do good things on occasion and he does love his kids. He's a tortured soul that women feel the need to save. The thing is, he can't be saved because he doesn't want to be saved."

"Wow, you're just full of wisdom tonight aren't you?" she said with a smile.

"Yup, and the way I see it, you have two options: you can wait around for Sonny and Brenda to implode, which they will. At which point I'm sure Sonny will be more than happy to have you sharing his bed again," he paused to take a sip of his drink.

"What's option number two?"

"You can let me buy you dinner."

"Let's go," she said as she grabbed her purse and jacket off the stool next to her.
