Rain
Ever since the death of his mother in the Bloody Valentine tragedy, Athrun Zala liked the rain. The soft pitter-patter of the drops upon pavement seemed to comfort his soul.
On a cloudy evening, he went out to enjoy the cool, crisp air.
Cagalli Yula Attha, his lover, approached him when she noticed his absence from the house.
It started to rain.
"Athrun," she called. He turned to face her.
"Let's go in...okay, Athrun?"
He waited a bit until he answered.
"Can we stay out a bit longer?"
He sounded like a child the way he voiced the question.
Pitter patter, pitter patter, pitter patter...
Cagalli placed her hand on his shoulder. "Come on, let's go in before we catch a cold...okay?
He nodded absently, seemingly entranced by the drops of falling water.
Once inside, Cagalli asked him, "...Why do you like the rain so much, Athrun?"
He glanced at the windows filled with the foreboding clouds, which promised more rain to come. He looked back at Cagalli with a wistful expression on his face.
"...Because the angels are crying for mother."
