Sparta Part III

The Persians had begun their invasion of the Greek peninsula, and the Spartans weren't going to just stand by and let them.

Invaders were heading towards the mountains of Thermopylae, and if they were to pass through there everything we know and love would be destroyed.

"How many men do have on our side Leonidas?" I questioned

" 300 Spartans and 6700 other Greek warriors" He said

"Against how many Persians?" I slowly asked

" 200000 strong." Leonidas stated trying to stay calm

We both grew quiet because we both know we were all going to die.

The next day we stood between the two mountains with our allies awaiting our fate at the hands of our nemeses.

It wasn't long until they came, marching in perfect formation, their ranks extended as far as the eye could see.

"Fellow Spartans, today we will die for the state, but before we do, lets give those Persians hell! Shouted Leonidas

Every Spartan there began shouting and waving their spears to show that they are ready to fight and die.

Darius, king of the Persian, soon sent the first unit of soldiers to fight the our men, at that point only one thought pass through our minds, kill them all and give the rest hell.

Soon the armies clashed and we already had the advantage, we were slaughtering our nemeses quickly with inhuman efficiency, but before we knew it Darius had sent in another unit of men, within seconds we were surrounded.

At this point I dropped my spear and unsheathed my sword while grabbing the sword of a fallen comrade, and screamed "Death to the Persians!"

I cut down one soldier then decapitated another to my left, blood quickly splattered on my armor.

I soon fell into a berserker rage, I was cutting down men left and right, before I knew it I was covered in blood and gore.

The Persian onslaught had ended for only a second, Darius soon sent his personal bodyguards to fight us, and they were rumored to be the best trained in the land, the only thing I could say was "This should be fun."

Within the hour nearly all of the Persian bodyguards were dead, but victory was far from us. When the rest withdrawal a Spartan scout came racing in on a lighting steed yelling for our leader, shouting "My lord we have been betrayed!"

"What, by whom?" questioned Leonidas

The scout quickly replied "It was one of our men, he told Darius about the path that leads behind us!"

"Damn it all, that's why he hasn't sent his full force down our throats, he's planning a to flank and surround us!" I shouted

"Scout, get the other generals, now!" ordered Leonidas

"Yes Sir!" replied the scout

Almost immediately they arrived and by the looks on their faces they knew all about the traitor.

"Generals, you all have lead your men and fought brilliantly, but in an hour the Persians will have us surrounded and kill us all, and that is why you and your armies must leave here at once." Said Leonidas eerily calm manor

" You are no good to your people if you are dead." Continued Leonidas

The generals all nodded in agreeing manor and rounded up their armies and left the battlefield.

After that no one spoke, they just got into positions.

The Persians bodyguards returned twice in numbers and surrounded us, but that didn't mean anything except time to kill.

In a mere twenty minutes, we had the advantage over them, but we didn't notice that the thousands of Persians archers were drawing back their bows.

They then let go and the skies darkened with arrows.
