Cuddy's Feelings
Dr. Lisa Cuddy felt a tug on her hand as she woke up that morning. He really is awake. She didn't fall asleep at his beside, dreaming that he was awake.
"I was hoping you'd wake up," he said. She swooned at the sound of his voice. It was like music to her ears.
"I thought that you were still..."
"No I'm not." His confirmation gave her all the more reason to be relieved, happy, and angry all at the same time.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" she asked him.
"A lot of things," he admitted, "but mostly the fact that I'm lying here in the hospital right after being in a coma."
"I mean, why-?"
"I had to try, Cuddy," he said. She sighed and tightened her grip on his hand. She let the tears fall freely on her cheeks.
House was startled. He'd never seen Cuddy cry before, nor had he wanted to. "Stop crying, Lisa," he ordered, using her first name.
"I'm just so relieved. You went to so many extents and did so many stupid things that-," she began but House cut her off with two words.
"I know."
She knelt down next to him, burying her head in his shoulder blade. House moved his hand as best he could to her hair and began to stroke it. He normally wouldn't do this, but he didn't know what else to do.
He had obviously made Cuddy worry.
"How's Wilson?" he asked.
"He's broken," she answered. She stared at his eyes. He looked worried. She'd never seen him like that before.
"Tell him I'm sorry I couldn't save her."
"He doesn't blame you," she said. She climbed in the small bed beside him. "I think he's just relieved you're okay, at least."
She snuggled closer, and House let her. He clutched her back to keep her from falling. Maybe he's broken more people than he realized. Hell, he didn't even realize the depth of Cuddy's feelings.
