"For the glory of Humanity"
Oneshot: Every Last One
It was done. All the titans were gone, the mystery of their existence solved, Wall Maria reclaimed. They'd even seen the sparkling blue ocean, stretching for miles beyond and with so many beautiful creatures; yet victory didn't come without sacrifice.
So many people had left Eren, slipped away from the grasp of Life. For many nights he had been sleepless, wondering if the victory of humanity, won with the power of titans, had really been worth it. Had humanity really won?
Petra...Marco...Hanji….Sasha….would it have been better for them to be dead and humanity alive like now or them alive and humanity kept within the walls but them still alive? For one selfish moment, Eren wished that they were all still alive, no matter how many battles and series of pain that he had to go through. It would definitely be worth it.
Even though there was barely any sunlight and a misty coat of fog, when Eren glanced out the window, he saw the graves of his many comrades, their lives given to the greater good, the glory of humanity. At the foot of Sasha's grave was Connie, doing the salute and seeming to be biting back tears; he had placed a bit of his breakfast on Sasha's grave, what he did with a part of all his three meals ever since Sasha had left him and the others of the 104th.
"Good morning Sasha- don't be too hungry up at Heaven k?" Eren watched as Connie walked away and almost smiled at Connie's loyalty. Even though Eren himself had been among the ones who was always telling others to move on and push behind, but never forget, the overwhelming amount of deaths, but, in actuality, Eren himself was one of those people who still hung onto the branch of the tree; no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to let go and forget everyone. Petra's smile, Hanji's optimism, Erwin's calm and quick decisions. All gone along with the titans.
Eren glanced at the clock and took out the blade that he had taken from his 3DMG earlier. It was almost time for him promotion to commander, so he had to finish his job quickly. There was nothing in the empty room except for the clock, his blade, and a full length mirror. As he pulled the mirror towards him, the door suddenly shook as fists banged on the wooden door.
"So…you've found my note huh, Mikasa…Armin. But I'm afraid you've come too late," Eren thought sadly as Mikasa and Armin shouted at him through the padlocked door.
"EREN! OPEN THE DOOR! Don't do it Eren! I…I don't want to lose you too! Eren…please. "
"Eren," Armin shouted as Mikasa stopped shouting and continued beating the door. "Please be reasonable? We still have so much to do and fight for, and it truly isn't your fault! There's no way that we've seen it all, we're bound to discover something soon. Live for us, Eren! Be reasonable, Eren. Please, Eren."
However, Eren ignored all of his companions' desperate shout and looked into the mirror. Instead of seeing himself in the mirror, he saw his titan form, the same titan that had lost control during the last battle and had killed and injured so many people, the same titan who had even enjoyed killing all his comrades before being rescued from his titan form by Levi Ackerman and then being pardoned from execution. And, after all, he had promised he would exterminate all the titans. Eren picked up the blade and, holding it to his heart, smiled one last time to the false yet true reflection in the mirror.
"I'm going to kill every…last…one, " Eren whispered, and fell into eternal sleep.
