Between the Lines

Time to tell me the truth
To burden your mouth for what you say
No pieces of paper in the way

'Cause I can't continue pretending to choose
These opposite sides on which we fall
The loving you laters if at all
No right minds could wrong, be this many times

Brennan exited the car with thoughts of agony and fear. She was alone. Everyone else had someone. Who did she have?

She clutched her empty chest and let herself shy away from what may be the last of her own sanity. Her rationality was gone and her life was coming to a close.

She turned back to the SUV, and watched as Booth pulled out of the driveway, and possibly out of her life.

My memory is cruel
I'm queen of attention to details
Defending intentions if he fails

Until now, he told me her name
It sounded familiar in a way
That I could have sworn I'd heard him say it
Ten thousand times, oh, if only I had been listening

Leave unsaid, unspoken
Eyes wide shut, unopened
You and me always between the lines
Between the lines

Brennan entered her apartment absentmindedly. She still couldn't grasp at the pain in her chest and squeeze it out. She knew this was her fault for waiting too long. She knew that waiting too long caused her heart to break more than necessary. She wanted Booth with all her heart.

She couldn't have him. Hannah came first. Booth knew that and so did she.

That did not stop waves of jealousy from taking over.

And that didn't stop her pillow from being used as a comfort tool. She just buried her face in the pillow and wept.

I thought I, thought I was ready to bleed
That we'd move from the shadows on the wall
Stand in the center of it all

Too late, two choices, to stay or to leave
Mine was so easy to uncover
He'd already left with the other
So I learned to listen through silence

Leave unsaid, unspoken
Eyes wide shut, unopened
You and me always be
You and me always be

Brennan couldn't sleep. That was expected. As logical as she is, she knew that a broken heart means sleepless nights. She just tried with all her might to go back to sleep.

She couldn't read between the lines. She remembered the kiss and the love confession. She pushed him away as though to tell him, "No." But, between those lines, her own feelings were ignored. Now she knew what she wanted, and he had someone else.

She thought about calling someone, but she thought the better of it. Hodgins wanted to watch some entomology thing, Angela needed to sleep because of her pregnancy, Cam was stressing herself out enough, and Sweets was probably with Daisy.

She was alone. She had no one to turn to.

I tell myself all the words he surely meant to say
I'll talk until the conversation doesn't stay on
Wait for me, I'm almost ready when he meant let go

Leave unsaid, unspoken
Eyes wide shut, unopened
You and me always be
You and me always between the lines
Between the lines, between the lines

Brennan laid back down in her bed. She stared at the ceiling and let some more tears fall. She knew that this was her fault. She waited, and he has someone else. That didn't stop her from rolling on her side and closing her eyes to let her tears escape her eyes.

"I love you, Booth."
