Title: Sin's Apprentice
Author: Holly Dane
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A poem about the night that Victor created his monster. How he wanted so badly to bring him to life, only to fear him the moment that he lifts the lid of one stone cold eye.
The thunder cracks like fury's fist
As rain pelts across the midnight sky
While droplets fall the wind whips fiercely
Through the black night the silence cries
It has taken two years to finally make it
But to him it seems like an eternity
When you work all day for each waking moment,
You barely have any time to breathe
Fastening clasps and tightening wires,
He rushes around like one possessed
With nimble fingers he positions the bolts,
For what he has discovered no one will ever best
Tedious hours and long preparations
Have been his companions during long, lonely nights
But the hours spent were worth every moment
They gave him hope of mastering God's might
Will they marvel at his genius
Perhaps they will ask him how it was done
Although he knows not which one it will be
He knows that his moment has come
So with a pounding heart he walks towards the table
And gazes down at the creature of death
His stony eyes are closed and his limbs lie dormant
But the young man knows he is to soon take his first breath
So now he runs quickly up the winding stone stairs
With each step he takes his goal grows nearer
And as he runs, his footsteps echo
But there is no one to hear them in his lonely prison
When he reaches the top he looks outside to the lightning
His anticipation boils over as he watches it boom
Obsessions has blinded him,
And led him to untimely doom
Pale hands fasten around the lever
His nerves run wild and he bites his tongue
As he cranks it the tables rises
His creature will live before this night is done
When the cold steel table reaches the open ceiling
The lightening rod trembles with unbridled energy
In awe, the pale student gapes at the sight
Never before has anyone see the dead brought to life
Excitement reached the boys' wide, blue eyes
And with grave trembling, he cried to the sky
He had finally discovered the power of God
But he knew not the consequences of creating life
A strand of black hair fell in front of his face
And within a moment fear flooded his heart
For what he had seen was more terrifying than death
What he saw was the yellow eye of his sick art
Stumbling backwards, the student shook with horror
All he had wanted was to father life
But instead he had given death a face
The face that would haunt his dreams day and night
Fate was sealed, and doom grew near
And all for the price of science
For science he would lose those his heart held dear
That night a young man signed over his life
For the beast he created was hated
This creature would stab him in the heart like a knife
But to do so use those he cherished
And one day this beast would call himself Satan
One day he would cry for his wrongs
He will claim that his father is the one to blame,
But in truth he is no fallen angel
I really enjoyed writing The Scarlet Girl, and I wanted to do a sister piece for Frankenstein. So Sin's Apprentice is that piece. I like the way it turned out. I would really like to know what you all think though! So please leave a review. It means a lot to me.
Thanks for reading.
