REASONS

"The heart has reasons that reason cannot know."

"Kennedy! What are you doing? Get back to your post!"

To hell with it. He wiped his sweat with the back of his hand as he glanced over his shoulder, making sure he was not followed. He removed the irritating earphone in his ear and threw it away as he ran.

Of course, he should be expecting a hitman tailing his ass right now. Why? Well, he just abandoned his current mission given by the president two minutes ago. The mission? To neutralize the only remaining spy of Umbrella, the red rogue, the bane of his existence, the lovely Miss Ada Wong. And why should he be neutralized? Because he just grabbed Miss Wong's hand and dragged her with him to his car.

"I don't understand..."

Leon casted a quick sideways glance to Ada and went back to the road. They were driving for a while now, not knowing how they had managed to confuse the two Sedans who were following them earlier.

Ada cocked her head lazily back to the window when Leon kept his mouth in a thin line. Her mind was still in a daze from the incident. She was quite sure Leon was about to shoot her a while ago, but nothing can explain her shock when he suddenly turned away from his scope and jumped to grab her away from that place.

That shouldn't surprise her by now. We're talking about Leon anyway. Leon was always the Good Samaritan.

But no, this is different. He should be mad at her for leaving him on a cliffhanger two years ago in Spain, leaving him only a jet ski and its teddy bear keychain as a means of escape. He should be mad for finding out that she still works with Wesker, or as he know. He should be mad, because she had still managed to trick him like what she did years ago.

So what the hell is happening?

She rolled her eyes and sighed. She had resisted the urge to ask him again, because he's still probably pissed off by now. Still, she gave in to the temptation of sneaking a peek of his face...

...only to find out that he's staring right back at her.

A smile slowly curved at the corner of her lips and winked. "Hey, handsome."

Leon's eyes immediately flew back to the road and gave out a sigh. Ada's smile disappeared and glanced away as she blinked. Fine, I get it.

"Are you okay?"

Ada's head snapped back at him, her eyes widening a bit. "Yes, thanks to you." She smiled, lifting the left corner of her mouth.

She noticed how Leon's features softened a bit after that smile.

"That was a stupid move back there, Leon."

Leon smirked. "You're welcome, Ada."

She shifted uncomfortably for a second and then stopped. "Alright, thank you for not planting a bullet in my brain."

He laughed, bitterly. "And for dragging you out from the line of fire. And for betraying the country just to save you. Yeah, you're very much welcome, Ada."

She chuckled softly. "Seriously Leon, I don't get it, but I'm really grateful, really, back there, and then now... for the lift."

His serious facade returned, but the warmth in his eyes remained. "...It's nothing."

After a long, uncomfortable silence, Ada couldn't take it anymore.

"Why, Leon?"

Without taking his eyes off the road, he answered, "I wish I knew, too."

Author's note:

I got this idea while I was watching my boyfriend play "Silent Scope 3" in the arcade. And yeah, the first line, too.
