A short one-shot drabble-ish type, inspired by a beautiful image drawn by one of my best friends for my sister's birthday. Please r&r, I really appreciate it! --chelsea
Three words hung heavily in the cold air of the damp room, lit only by the sliver of moonlight creeping in the window. "Don't leave me." The figure laying in the bed sighed, emitting a sound close to that of a moan from his lips as he slowly turned over in his sleep.
Remus Lupin's eyes moved behind his pale lids, which fluttered gently themselves. He breathed in shortly, sniffing through his nose. The breath came out shakily, and his lips trembled. His cheeks were stained with tears, which were still steadily flowing. "Sirius…" he murmured, the last sound of the name a near hiss. The tears fell harder, and Remus swallowed.
In his mind, his dreams were taking him far from reality, as most would put it. He was alone, sitting on a floor in a dark room with no light but a dimming candle on the floor. He stared at the flame as it shrank, casting the shadows longer on the walls surrounding him, and making it harder to see. Remus bit a nail, muttering Sirius' name through his finger as the candle became a puddle and the flame went out.
Remus sat in the dark for a short while-- he had no idea how long. But then a shining light appeared before him, and Remus stood. The light dimmed itself so he could see what was there. Standing before him was Sirius, a glowing halo circling his head and grand wings hanging from his shoulders. They brushed the ground as Sirius moved closer, and ran a hand along Remus' cheek.
Remus shivered at the touch, unlike anything he'd ever felt. Sirius smiled gently, and Remus began crying. "I've missed you, so much," he whispered. Sirius nodded.
"I know."
"Sirius, please…" Remus couldn't finish his sentence, but Sirius understood. He wrapped his arms around Remus' shoulders and pulled him close to him. Remus cried for several minutes, leaning against Sirius' chest. Sirius gently kissed his forehead, and Remus raised his face, pressing their lips together, as tears poured from his eyes, seemingly unending. The two men stood, holding one another for what was feared to be the last time.
Remus could feel Sirius being pulled away, and he thought desperately 'Don't leave me!'
Sirius' hand went to Remus' cheek, his thumb carefully massaging the skin. He wiped away all of Remus' tears, and they both looked into the other's eyes. Remus swallowed, and Sirius whispered "I'll always love you."
"Don't go, Sirius. Please… Don't leave me."
"I have to," Sirius said, his feet raising from the ground. Their hands held to each other, and Sirius finally murmured "Goodbye Love," as their hands were pulled apart.
Remus sat bolt upright in his bed, crying out Sirius' name again. His hands went to his face, to wipe away his tears, but they were gone, taken by an invisible hand. He looked to his bedside table, and there was a folded piece of parchment.
Remus gently lifted it, and read the words written in Sirius' soft cursive:
Dear Rem,
I'm terribly sorry to have left, but you've got to be strong. So many people are depending on you. Please don't let them down. I'll always love you, no matter how far apart we are, or who or what separates us. No matter if it's a mere wall, the earth, or Heaven and Hell, you will be the one to hold my heart. I promise to see you again, someday, and soon. Please be happy, but don't forget me.
Sir
Tears welled and slipped down Remus' face, reading the words that were nearly sixteen years old, but seemed as though they could have been written in his sleep by Sirius's angel. The letter had been sent to him the day Sirius was put into Azkaban, and, in Remus' heart, the night he'd died.
Also, I don't own the Harry Potter series or characters, obviously.
