Chapter 1

Screams came from downstairs as I raced to get to my friends. I jumped down the stairs two at a time. I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the horror in front of me. People in long black cloaks with silver masks holding sticks were here. They were laughing manically as they twirled their sticks and the people above twirled as well. My best friend, Saphina was screaming as she lay on the floor in obvious pain. The tables were broken and I could tell why. Every once and a while one of the people in cloaks would flick their stick and a person they were spinning would be sent crashing into the tables. There was blood everywhere and the air stank of it. A smell I called, death lingered in the room as well as the overwhelming coppery smell of blood. I ran forward and grabbed my own stick, a piece of a table and went to Saphina. She screamed when I came near her, her body shaking. I looked to see which of the cloaked people had their stick pointed at her and lunged. I hit him with my stick with as much force as I could muster. He crumpled to the ground and I smiled triumphantly. I felt a sharp pain in my back and turned to see another cloaked person with their stick pointed at me and pain unlike any pain I felt before washed over myers and I let out a animal like scream. I dropped to my knees.

"That is where you belong, muggle," muggle was spat out as if it was poison, "on your knees."

Another wave of pain washed over me and I gritted my teeth. I reached slowly for the stick I dropped. Once it was in my hand I felt the smallest bit stronger. I started to stand, fighting the pain. I slowly brought back my hand and sent the piece of wood flying at the figure. The pain immediately disappeared when it crumpled. I grabbed another piece and turned to face my next opponent. I heard a groaning overhead and before I could register what was happening a chunk of the roof fell crushing me.

A hooded figure came towards me out of the blackness. "I am Death and I am here to bring you onto the next part of your journey."

"I cannot leave when my friends are in danger from those people up there."

"But you must, they will join you soon."

"I will not leave."

"Do you fear me because everyone must come to me eventually."

"I do not fear you but I will not leave this earth until I am not needed and no one is in danger, right now I am needed and there are people in danger, I refuse to leave."

"Such courage and compassion. I shall grant you immortality for you will always be needed and someone will always be in danger on the grounds that you always work for the good of others and never to pursue your own goals and you always help those in need. I will give you my knowledge and that of the great protectors of light before you," he touched my forehead and a glowing dot appeared, "a wand and this sword, with these you are binded to your task forevermore."

I felt knowledge rush into my head and organize itself, almost like a library. A wand in one hand, a sword in the other and I opened my eyes to the real world. I felt myself glowing when I opened my eyes, I pointed my hand at the rock overhead and it shot off, like the cork of a champagne bottle. I stepped out of the hole I created and faced the death eaters as I had learned they were called. I brought up my hand and simply moved it without speaking and they all disappeared. I turned to look at the Aurors that must have come to the scene after the roof had fell on me, I bowed and apperated.
