Two People, One Soul by Casey Toh
The two young masters will never know how I pray for them so each night when they go about their patrol. Every night I see them slap on the masks; see their pain as they each relive the memory and situation that brought them together.
Master Bruce had been under my care for all his life. The night Mr. and Mrs. Wayne died, he died with them, and I did too. I tried to protect him, but he pushed me away and started his training, eventually leading him to take on the horrendous Bat mantle. Everyday is another day for the soul of Batman; everyday a funeral for Bruce Wayne.
And Master Dick had to follow in his footsteps, of all people. I shouldn't have been surprised. After all, Dick Grayson's parents had also died at the hands of a criminal. And when Master Bruce took him in, he was bound to follow in his ways, just as a shadow follows its object.
I should have seen it coming. Despite all of their differences, the paths of the young masters were the same. Despite their constant arguing, their destinies were linked. The late Waynes and Graysons had to die, so that their sons should meet, and complete what was missing—their soul.
When their parents died, half of each young master's soul died with them, leaving them incomplete. By taking Master Dick in, Master Bruce had found the other half of him, and vice versa.
Well, I guess both of them will realize sooner or later that they truly love each other. They do not know it, but they were already two halves of the same whole; two people with one soul.
