A sharp jab in the cheek dragged Skye from her peaceful sleep, but she refused to open her eyes. Whatever it was, hopefully it would just go away. Seconds later, another jab was given to her cheek. Her eyes flew angrily open, determined to give whoever it was hell for waking her up when it was still dark out, but when she saw Jemma's scared face in the dim light, all her anger melted away.
"Simmons? What the hell are you doing here?"
Jemma hesitated, then shook her head, clutching a pillow to her chest. "Never mind. It's dumb."
"Simmons, wait." Skye sat up in bed, trying to grab Simmons before she left. "Simmons, hey-Jemma!"
Jemma stopped at the mention of her first name, and turned back around to face Skye, still looking scared. "I had a nightmare," the young scientist admitted.
The hacker's heart melted, and she held out a hand to Jemma, scooting over on the small bed to make room for her. "Come here."
Jemma's shoulders sagged with relief and she crawled onto the bed with Skye.
"Wanna talk about it?" Skye asked, leaning up against the wall, pulling Jemma into her side.
"No!" Jemma said without hesitation as she leaned into Skye.
"Might make you feel better." Skye offered.
"I feel fine, thanks." Jemma said stiffly.
"Jemma," Skye laughed. "If you felt okay, you wouldn't be here in my bed with me. Now tell me, what was the nightmare about? The clairvoyant?"
"No, nothing like that." Jemma fidgeted with her pajama top.
"Did you have another nightmare about Deathlok?" Skye's grip on Jemma tightened. "Because we're 20,000 feet up, I think-"
"I didn't have a nightmare about anything supernatural, so can we just stop talking about it!" Jemma's shoulders had tensed, and her sudden outburst scared Skye.
"Damn, I'm sorry Simmons."
"No, Skye, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you." Jemma sighed. "The nightmare...it's so dumb, but it was actually about the person I love."
At this admittance, Skye was surprised. "I didn't know you loved anyone, Jemma."
At the use of her first name again, Jemma smiled. "Yeah, but they don't know."
"Ohh…" Skye suddenly seemed to understand. "Your nightmare...they rejected you."
"Told you it was dumb." Jemma said quietly.
"You should go tell him."
Jemma looked up, confused. "Who?"
"Fitz," Skye's brown eyes searched Jemma's face. "He's the one you love, right? You should go tell him."
"Skye." Jemma flushed a deep red. "It's not Fitz."
Skye's eyes got big. "Ward? Oh, Jemma, I had no idea the strong, silent type was your type! You should totally-"
"It's not Ward, it's you!" Jemma suddenly blurted out.
Skye suddenly went very still, her smile freezing on her face. "Me?"
"Shit, oh shit!" Jemma whispered, horrified. She couldn't believe she had just said that. She scrambled out of Skye's embrace, off Skye's bed and it wasn't until she was out of Skye's room did it register that she had left her pillow on Skye's bed.
"Jemma!" A voice called after her.
Jemma ignored Skye, and continued walking back toward her bunk. But soon, a hand grabbed her wrist and she was spun around to face an amused looking Skye.
"Skye, if you can after me simply to make fun-"
Jemma was cut off by Skye's soft lips on hers. Her ever racing brain went into hyper-drive, and then suddenly went into automatic. Her lips began to move by their accord against Skye's and her arms wound themselves Skye's neck.
Skye's hands went around Jemma's slender frame and pulled her in close, deepening the kiss. She could feel Jemma's heart pounding through her chest, and and Skye smiled to herself when she heard the scientist whimper against her mouth as Skye ran her tongue along the bottom of Jemma's lips.
Skye pulled back all too soon in Jemma's opinion, but stayed close, resting her head against her own. "Jemma." Skye's voice was soft, and she sounded slightly out of breath. I'm not here to make fun."
