Hi everybody. It's been a long time since I did anything on Fan Fiction, but lucky for you, I like listening to songs at random times. And You are My Sunshine happened to be one of them inspiring this story. Trust me, it is heart breaking. But to be sure, you better listen to the song while you read.

Disclaimer: I do not own Warriors (owned by Erin Hunter) or You are My Sunshine, but I wish I did...

Long grass sprouted from the earth, filling the clearing with a quiet whisper. Beneath the flowing tips of the gold and green grass, soft soil was patched with moss. The clearing was warm from the sunlight slanting through the tree tops casting dappled shadows over the lovely little secret. It was her secret. Well, her's and one other's.

Long before the Clans had left the beautiful forest they had called home, Sandstorm and her mate Firestar would sneak away into the place that was theirs and theirs alone. Now, the she-cat paced the clearing, sighing with content. Her aged soul felt light, and her even older joints were no longer stiff. With each paw step, the pale ginger she-cat felt more and more happy. She settled down by a fallen log, the grass around it flattened. And it still smelled of him.

"I love you, Sandstorm..." His voice floated on the breeze. And it came again, louder. "C'mon, my love, you are not really going to sleep through my visits?" Sandstorm lifted her head, and sure enough, there was a bright ginger tom before her, his pelt flame in the sun light.

"FIRESTAR!" leaping to her paws, Sandstorm brushed against her mate. His spirit was as warm as the sunshine the pooled around the clearing. "How many moons has it been since I've seen you? Too many to count..." Sandstorm felt water in her eyes as she pressed against Firestar. His nose pressed against her forehead, "When the time comes... we can always be together."

Time passed in the clearing. The sunlight faded leaving the resting couple alone in the dark. Darkness, something unusual in StarClan. A quiet whisper fluttered among the trees, "Perhaps you should go back to ThunderClan," Firestar's voice was cracking and full of hurt, "The sun is coming up once again. If you do not leave now, the sunshine will certainly wake you."

"Oh, Firestar..." Sandstorm curled tight against him, breathing in his sun-warm scent, "you are my sunshine." But as she spoke, Firestar's form began to fade. The elderly she-cat cried, "No! Don't leave yet!" Her mate's leaf-green gaze softened, "You'll never know how much I love you..." It was barely a whisper as golden light began to tear the dream world apart.

"No!" Sandstorm wailed, "Please! Please, don't go. She raised her head to the heavens, "Please don't take my sunshine away!"

But it was too late. Sandstorm was awake, Greystripe next to her. It was all a dream. Only a dream. It would never be real until the day she found herself among the stars.

Sandstorm padded out of the elder's den and made her way out of camp. Blossomfall questioned her before allowing Sandstorm out into the forest. Dew clung the ferns, and they glittered with the sunshine that rippled through the trees. As Sandstorm left the comfort of the forest to gaze across the lake, she felt that the sun shone brighter than it had in moons. Every part of her warmed.

Tears rolled across her furry cheeks onto the lakeshore. She would never feel the true sunshine until she walked in death. Then Firestar's parting words came to her. Sandstorm bowed her head, sobs racking her frail body violently, "You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine... away..."

Hope you guys aren't crying because I probably am.
