Written for the Ascend-The-Ladder Competition. Prompt: Sleeping in on a rainy day.
The heavy rain pounded on the bedroom window. The sound filled the otherwise silent room as Remus laid in bed, waiting for Sirius to return from work.
Sirius and James, knowing that Remus would be up waiting, had sent a Patronus to the Werewolf, informing him that their mission was over and they were back in the office. Remus had climbed into bed shortly after that, waiting for Sirius there. He knew Sirius should be there within the next hour, after giving his reports, and Remus wanted to wait in bed for him, warming the bed up, knowing Sirius would be cold.
It was after four-am, but Remus was going to stay awake and wait for Sirius to join him. The bed didn't feel right when he was alone, and the only thing that was sending him to sleep was the relaxing sound of the rain, pounding against the window. Otherwise it wouldn't have been a problem waiting on Sirius.
The sound was too soothing, and Remus had to light up the room and pull out a book to keep his eyes from drooping too much.
Finally the sound of the Floo caught his attention, and Remus put the book down, his eyes fixed on the bedroom door. Minutes later, Sirius was throwing his wet clothes into the washing basket in the corner, and his cold body slipped in between the heated covers on the bed, and he pulled Remus close.
"Missed you," he murmured, his lips against Remus, and Remus smiled, repeating the words.
It only took a few minutes after their heads rested on the pillows before they fell asleep, every inch of their body touching. From Remus' head against Sirius' shoulder and Sirius' jaw pressed against Remus' forehead, right down to their entwined legs.
Remus couldn't imagine a bed without Sirius Black in it, and Sirius always whispered those words back to him.
A few hours later he awoke to the sound of the rain. Uncertain whether it had even stopped in the last few hours, Remus untangling himself from Sirius to take a look. He headed to the window, peeking through the curtains at it. With a glance back at Sirius laying in bed, Remus opened the window slightly, allowing the wonderful smell to hit him, to sooth him.
He knew there would be puddles when they went out later that day. The deep kind that Sirius liked to jump in and Padfoot liked to roll in. That was one of Sirius' favourite parts of the rain. The other was having Remus in his bed.
Remus leaned his face to the open window, stray drops hitting his hot skin until he heard Sirius slide out of the bed.
"I'm cold," came Sirius' murmur from behind him, arms wrapping around his waist, lips on his neck.
Remus pulled the window closed again. He knew time was getting on a bit and that they had slept most of the morning away already.
"Are you going to warm me up, love?" Sirius asked, a smirk on his lips.
Remus nodded, turning to face Sirius, allowing Sirius to kiss the drops of rain from his face, before gently pushing Remus back to the bed and covering Remus' body with his own.
And like most rainy mornings, Remus spent it in bed, enjoying the sound against the windows. The rain was beautiful. It meant warm mornings on the other side of the glass, and the wonderful smell when he headed out in the afternoon, the cool air on his face, even if the sun was beaming down on him.
But what he liked more than the rain, was the way Sirius' body was wrapped around his, holding him tight with Sirius whispering to him. Naughty words, nonsense words or words of love. Remus didn't care, as long as Sirius was there with him to enjoy it all.
And judging by the smirk on Sirius' lips, they weren't leaving the bed anytime soon.
