A/N: I wrote this after The Wrath of Khan, before The Search for Spock. I always believed that Kirk had something in mind, knowing what Genesis was capable of, when he launched Spock's body to the planet. Kirk always had something in mind...

Memories of a time long past—

Of a man I knew who breathed his last.

For the needs of the many he lived, and he died;

The needs of the few, and the one, pushed aside.

In the wake of a new world he gave his life

And the loss is felt like the pierce of a knife.

But this world is young and new, alive...

And what of Spock? Did he survive?

Someday I will return to this place

To learn the fate he really did face,

But for now, until that time,

I'll have the memories. They are mine.
