In a small clearing in a smoldering forest, there was a young woman, not even out of her teens, lying in the damp grass. She was staring at the Dark, cloudy sky, a vacant look in her deep crimson eyes. She seemed to be lost in herself; trapped in her own thoughts.

It started to rain on her little patch of loneliness, but she didn't care…She was somewhere else. A place beyond explanation, a place without evil beings torturing her very soul by tearing her from her friends…her family…the secret love of her life.

The freezing rain pounded harder on her face, and the razor-sharp wind ripped at her muddy hair and tattered clothes, but that didn't matter. She just didn't care. Nothing else mattered to her right now but him, but he was gone. Everyone was. She herself was about to leave her battle-beaten body behind to join them.

She remembered the whole incident quite clearly, actually, but she didn't want to. It was still too painful. Wherever her mind was now, she felt no pain. There wasn't really anything else, either, except for Takeru.

A tall young man came staggering out of the gloomy forest into the small clearing, himself beaten and bloody in places. A confused expression appeared on his tired face when he saw the girl lying on the ground, staring at nothing, thinking nothing, and feeling nothing. His eyes (at least the one that hadn't swollen shut) opened wide with realization of who she was. As quickly as his muscles would take him, he clumsily limped his way to her, while slipping in the mud and falling to his knees next to her own crumpled figure.

He took the broken form in his strong arms and looked into the girl's hopeless eyes.

….

They didn't look back.

With a scratchy voice, he spoke to her, "Hikari, come back to me. I'm still here, and everyone needs you. I need you…"

This proved to do nothing for Hikari, even when Takeru pleaded and yelled to the High Heavens asking for her return.

Shaking with tears, the tall blonde held his long-time love with all he had, fearing she might slip through his grasp at any moment. "Kari, please…don't you see? I'm here, and I always will be here for you. I would never leave you for anything else…I love you, Hikari Yagami," he whispered ever so gently into her ear. Those words set something off in Kari; the will to live, and to love. Her crimson eyes flashed, and she started to slowly come back to reality.

As she started to feel once again, she moaned slightly at the pain of her injuries, but she soon forgot about them when she looked up into a familiar set of beautiful ocean-blue orbs, brimming with tears of joy above her.

"If I didn't have you," she whispered no softer than the tear gliding down her cheek, mixing with the tears of the sky, "I'd have nothing."

They leaned in for the kiss that spoke for the rest of their lives…
