A 21st Photo
Light turned twenty-one, and Sayu gave him a photo to commemorate the event.
It was a good present from a little sister: cheap yet taken and framed with care, and sentimental. That was the important part, wasn't it? Sentiment. Except Light wasn't the sort of person who cared about sentiment.
He doesn't even remember that photo now, collecting dust in his old room. He doesn't remember Sayu much either; Sayu's not important when it comes to Kira and his goals – not unless she's kidnapped anyway. And then he's just irate, because she's foolish and sentimental and now he has to save her life, because doing the easy thing and killing her will bring too much suspicion onto him.
Maybe, if he had been more sentimental, he would have cared more about her too.
