"I told you Rufus! I'm working as fast as I can, okay?"

"No! Work faster! You may not understand, but we're running out of time. Get me the mask!"

"Rufus! I can't! Victor and I are working as fast as we can!"

"Really Vera? Because it almost seems that you're a little too close to Victor! Every time I turn around you're acting sweeter and sweeter with him! That is not your mission!""

"That's it!" A smile came to Vera's face. "If I get really close to him, if you know what I'm saying, we might just work better!"

"Vera, Victor isn't who you think he is, I'm telling you!"

"I don't care, it's worth a shot."

"Fine. Do it. What do I care?"

Rufus stormed to his car and drove away, leaving Vera alone behind the old warehouse. She too got in her car and went back to Anubis house.

When she arrived back to Anubis, she went up to Victor's office.

Victor saw her and said,

"Vera! How was the grocery?"

"Quite odd. They were closed because of a power outage!"

"How tragic!"

"I know, but I'll go in the morning."

"Alright then."

"How's the senate practice going?"

"Excellent, I have won five games of six."

Victor stood up right in front of Vera. Vera said,

"Splendid. Shall we try again tonight?"

"I don't see why not. We need to beat those kids!"

"Oh Victor!" Vera put on her puppy dog eyes, this time, for real.

Victor started to say something, but Vera's phone rang. She looked at it, it said R.Z., for Renea Zeldman, Rufus's code name. She picked it up and said,

"Hello?"

From the phone she heard "Vera, how did it go with Victor, did it work?"

Vera held the phone to her shoulder and said to Victor,

"Sorry, gotta take this."

"Alright then." Victor sat back down, and Vera stepped into the hall.

"Rufus! It was working, and you just goofed it up!"

"Sorry..."

Vera took a look at Victor at his desk. Oh how much she wished she could stop faking the way she felt. To Rufus she said,

"You know what Rufus? I'm done, okay? Done with you, done with the hunt for the mask, and DONE with pretending to be all cozy with Victor. I don't care what he is, or what you say, because I want to be with him."

Vera expected an angry response from Rufus, but the only response she got was a dead line. Rufus had hung up. Vera snapped her phone shut and strolled into Victor's office. Tonight, she was going to tell him everything, including how she really felt. She was done being what she wasn't. Done.
