Maybe
They were standing in rows of demigods, fighting to protect the whole of the Earth, yet Travis couldn't stop thinking about the brunette beside him. He had to tell her; he couldn't stand it if either one of them died without her knowing.
"Hey, seeing as we might die…I need to tell you something," Travis admitted, turning to Katie. She was looked at him.
"Yeah?" She asked, more focused on the battle ahead than what he was going to say.
"I like you. I've liked you for a long time. So if we survive, will you go out with me?" He asked, grinning.
Katie looked at him, now fully focused. She noticed something different about the way he was smiling, and then realized it was almost…shy. Travis was never shy!
She looked up at him and smiled. She never realized how beautiful his eyes were. Before this, she only noticed the mischievousness. "I'd love to. But of course, you'd have to stop putting chocolate bunnies on my roof."
"Now, who said I did that?" He bent when Katie gave him her famous Look. "Ok, ok I did that," he laughed, holding his hands up in surrender. His laugh lightened her mood, despite the fact that they were holding swords and shields and worrying about future death.
She hesitantly slipped her small hand into his comforting one. She peeked at him out of the corner of her eye and saw that he was glancing at her too. On impulse, she hugged him, needing the comfort. Of course, it was slightly uncomfortable because of the armor and the fact that their swords were at awkward angles, so as not to hurt the other. But all the same, it was comforting.
Just as they broke apart, Percy gave the orders to begin the battle. Travis leaned over and kissed Katie's cheek.
Because maybe, just maybe, if they survived, they could become something.
Maybe.
