Lullaby for Sawyer

It was a normal night in Hollywood. As usual, the theatre and shop lights were turned off and the street lights came on. They lit their way down a particular street, to a house, where a certain Persian cat and her boyfriend were turning in.

Sawyer tossed and turned in bed. Danny was lying next to her.

It was just one of those nights. Despite all the happiness lately and the great life that she had since Danny came to town, she still had those nights where she couldn't relax and let go.

Danny, who was still awake, noticed Sawyer's moaning and decided to take some action.

'Feeling ok, angel?' he asked, sweetly.

Sawyer smiled a little. She liked being called 'angel'.

'I don't know, honey' Sawyer answered. 'I just can't sleep. And I should be. We're supposed to be at Mammoth Pictures at 7:00am'

Danny stroked Sawyer's hand. He didn't want to see his love like this. There was only one thing for it.

'I have an idea, Sawyer' Danny told her.

'Really?' said Sawyer, curiously. 'How?'

Danny then wrapped his arms around Sawyer, taking care not to hold her too tightly.

'Entwine your tail with mine' said Danny.

So Sawyer let Danny's tabby, tail wrap around her white silky tail.

'Now close your eyes and take some deep breaths' Danny coaxed. 'Relax'

Sawyer did as she was told. Then the next thing she heard was so beautiful that she could've wished the night would last forever.

"Hush little girl, please don't cry. Danny's going to sing you a lullaby. No big scary monster is coming for you to gobble you up like chunky beef stew'

Sawyer smiled. This was the same song Danny sung for her while they were spending their first date together. She had been crying about her life without a mother and Danny had sung this to her to make her smile. And to no surprise, it was helping her again. Danny's tail was stroking hers, to the rhythm of the lullaby.

"Hush little angel, close those eyes. Float on a cloud, drifting to the skies. There's no need to go and count some sheep, so just relax angel, go to sleep"

Sawyer felt herself growing more relaxed. Danny was singing close to her right ear. It felt so wonderful that she didn't want to think anymore. All she wanted was to hear Danny's singing. Hopefully she would hear his singing in her dreams.

Danny ended the song with the verse he started with.

"Hush little girl, please don't cry. Danny's going to sing you a lullaby. No big scary monster is coming for you to gobble you up like chunky beef stew'

The last thing Danny saw before he to, drifted off was Sawyer. Her eyes were closed. Her breathing was slow and deep. Clearly she was well into dreamland.

Danny leaned over and kissed his sleeping beauty on her lips. Sawyer smiled in her sleep, as Danny's lips left hers.

'Goodnight my angel' Danny whispered.
