Kankuro and Gaara – Bromance
A bit OOC
*Spoilers for war arc.
It was only until tomorrow that Gaara and his siblings would return to Suna. In the meantime though he was recovering in Konoha, due to the injuries Madara gave him during the war, and because Kankuro got poisoned again. 'Typical go to war and the first thing he does is get poisoned . . . I swear.' Gaara thought as he made his way to the hospital.
When he reached the hospital, he went straight to Kankuro's hospital room. Upon entry, he saw his brother asleep in bed. He seemed to be recovering well from the looks of it. Sighing quietly, he walked over to the chair right next to Kankuro's bedside.
"You need to stop getting poisoned," Gaara started "I hate it – I hate it so much, why? Why. . . Nii-san?" During this little speech, little did he know that Kankuro was awake the whole time. He tears were on the brim of his closed eyes but he had to remain neutral for as long as possible, since he wanted to know what his brother would say.
Continuing on Gaara placed his hand right beside Kankuro's, fingertips touching, "I nearly lost you once, and I don't want to lose you again!" Gaara said hanging his head. Deciding to open his eyes, Kankuro placed his hand atop Gaara's one and looked at him. Feeling his Nii-san's hand atop his, his head shot straight up and looked at his brother straight in the eye. He had a tear that fell from the corner of his eye while looking at Gaara, but he smiled despite that.
"Kankuro!"
"Ototo."
"Don't get poisoned," Gaara warned. "Hey, I basically live with poison! Remember my puppets? And their weapons? Guess what they're dipped in? Poison! So it'll be difficult not get poisoned."
"Why were you crying Kankuro? Did I hurt you?"
"Hmm? Ah! Oh no, no. You didn't hurt me . . ." He trailed off ". . . You called me 'Nii-san,' that's why – you know."
". . . I meant what I said." Gaara said standing to wipe the tear from Kankuro's face. "Ototo, don't you ever get injured like that again, if it weren't for Tsunade, I might've . . ."Kankuro clenched his jaw, another tear slipped down his cheek 'I might've lost you ototo . . . again!' Motioning with his hand for Gaara to come closer he sighed while wiping his eye.
Gaara sat on his bedside waiting patiently for Kankuro to say something, but instead saw him trying to sit up. Helping him sit up, Kankuro thanked him and then grabbed his forearm.
'It's now or never!' Kankuro thought as he tugged on his brother's forearm making him fall onto his chest, his arms wrapped around him, hand rubbing his back in soothing circles, embracing him. Gaara's eyes widened at this sudden display of affection, but relaxed as he realised he was being hugged – his first hug. Relaxing further he rested his head against Kankuro's shoulder loosely wrapping his arms around his brother in return.
That's when he heard his brother choke on his cries. Lifting his head from his brother's shoulder, Gaara hesitantly reached out brushing his brothers' tears away. Kankuro grabbing his hand put it down to his lap putting his other hand atop his brother's and his own "I might've lost you again ototo! Don't you ever make me worry like that again!" Kankuro demanded "Never do that again. Ever!" "I should say the same for you . . . Nii-san."
Kankuro gasped eyes widening then said "I worry about you ototo, Your my brother. I love you." Then reaching down and kissing his self-inflicted 'Ai' mark in his forehead.
Now it was Gaara's turn to gasp 'Did he just say . . . That he . . . Loved me?' He grabbed his aching chest right over his heart, tears forming in his eyes. "Ototo? Are you alright?" "I-I Love you too . . . Nii-san." That is when Kankuro hugged him again.
"That's all I needed to hear."
