Welcome

Some of you will see this as the rewritten version of The Demigod With The Secrets. But to new readers this is but another story. But please, give this a try.

I admit, this is not my main focus right now so my updates will be slow. But I will as I can. Assume there will be at least one update a week. Sometime there might be more.

I hope you enjoy, and lets get right into this!

She's been running for years, and today was no different.

She was running. She risked a look back. They were close. Very close. She broke into a sprint. They were getting closer, she could feel it. Easier than most would, she expertly weaved her way through the crowds of pedestrians. She ducked into an ally, hiding behind some boxes. She just needed to find him then she'll be safe. She'll finally be free from those horrible creatures. That faint feeling was getting stronger. She was getting closer to him. He wasn't that far. Just a little further...

She closed her eyes, her back sliding down the wall until she was sitting on the ground. She put her head on her knees and tried to slow down her breathing and heart rate. She prayed that they wouldn't find her as she wouldn't be able to manage a frontal attack right now. Her breathing returned to normal and her heart-rate eventually slowed down. She thought about how much her life sucked and how she got into this mess.

The monsters first found her on her second year running. She was walking through a park in Kentucky, looking for a place to sleep when she first heard the growling. It started out as one or two wolf-like creatures. But then they started growing in numbers; a couple here, a little more there. It was about a year before It found her. Makayla had no idea what the thing was. Out of the dozens of monsters that followed her, that was the thing that scared her more than anything else. It looked like a living shadow, no actual body or face. Just the outline of a man with glowing green eyes. It was huge, around nine feet tall. It never spoke, just appearing near her at night.

Makayla took a breath and left the ally, trying to walk casually in synch of the pedestrians on the sidewalk. She took the hair band off her wrist and twisted her hair up into a sloppy bun. She managed to dig her jacket and cap out of her backpack, hiding her hair in her hat and slipping on the hoodie. It wasn't much of a disguise, but it would help a little.

Makayla had been running for almost four years and was currently sixteen, close to seventeen years old. She left her home a few years after he did, not able to be alone anymore. Her wavy red hair reached a little past her shoulders when let down. Her normally pale skin was now tanned from the time she spent in the sun. Her figure was still slim, but her stomach was thinner now from the little food she ate and her arms were muscled from fighting monsters and muggers.

People used to say her eyes were always the most beautiful and mesmerizing things they had seen. As of this moment they were a mix of silver and purple, constantly switching between the two or mixing together. She managed to make it look the colors beautiful. But that's also the worst part of her. Her eyes were how monster found her most of the time. She would change her outfit, die her hair, or change her voice… But her eyes couldn't be changed and always gave her away.

Those eyes of hers were once bright and filled with humor and laughter… But it has been a long time since. She also once wore an almost permanent smile, a smile that would make others smile against their efforts not to and make anyone happy. But her face was now a blank wall, those days long gone.

Makayla was currently wearing her usual clothes; ripped denim shorts and a black tank top which was now covered by her grey hoodie jacket. She was also wearing her favorite white sneakers which were covered with dirt and was thinning from wearing them for so long. Makayla slowed down her running down to a casual walk, trying to blend in. She tried to put on a look on her face that said she didn't have a care in the world.

She felt the monsters getting closer. Then she felt the pain come back, thankfully not as bad as usual. She gritted her teeth, determined not to give away where she was. She had learned the hard way that that It used its power to try to find her by trying to make scream from pain. But she resisted. Not when she's so close to finding him. He face was turning red from trying to hold it in. Yet she kept moving on despite the clawing on her back.

Makayla stopped when she felt a tugging sensation. She turned and ran in the direction where she felt it strongest. She turned off the sidewalk and down the street, cars honking at her as she ran in front of them. She followed a road leading though a forest. She was confused. Why would he down this road and be in the forest? Was he hiding too?

Makayla shook the thought out of her head and kept running, the feeling getting stronger with each step. She looked up and saw that it was getting dark. If Makayla had to guess, she would say it was about eight o'clock? She froze when she heard growling, cursing; something she seems to be doing a lot.

Makayla was so caught up in her thinking that she stop didn't make sure she wasn't being followed. She turned around only to be face-face with a wolf. She moved a few steps back then turned around and saw those annoying snake-legged ladies hissing creepily. Looking to her sides she saw more monsters.

She was surrounded.

'No' Makayla thought. 'After all this time I am so close! I just can't stop!' She gritted her teeth, turning, trying to find an opening in the circle of creatures. Then It stepped forward. Makayla's mouth went dry. This was the monster she hated the most.

It started slowly walking towards Makayla. When it reached one of the wolves that was surrounding her… He walked right through it like the thing was a shadow passing over the wolf. Once it passed through it, it re-formed.

Every time Makayla saw the thing, she felt frozen in fear. She knew she could still move if she tried, but it was almost as if it froze her in place. It started walking towards her and Makayla started backing away from it. A wolf tried to snap at her when she got to close but she jumped back before it could bite her. Unfortunately, it got her closer to the shadow-creature-thing.

'Huh. That's actually not a bad name. I'm gonna call it that.' She thought in the back of her mind said. 'Shut up! Focus stupid head!' The rest of her mind said. Her head rolled her mental eyes at the horrible pun. She risked a glance behind the Shadow creature and her eyes widened before she quickly changed them back to normal.

On the other side of the road she had seen a small path of grass that looked padded down from people walking on it. She looked at the ring of monsters surrounding her. Then she thought of something.

Crazy Idea Time.

She turned back to the Shadow Creature who had stopped about ten feet in front of her. She winked. Then she did something really stupid that would probably kill her. Makayla bolted forwards going into a sprint, straight towards the Shadow Creature. It had the affect she was hoping for.

The Shadow Creature wasn't expecting her to do that, so she startled it. But right at the last minute, Makayla spun in around it and ran towards one of the giant wolves. It backed up a step or two, not expecting her to do that. Then it recovers its senses and lunged forwards, snapping at her. Makayla paused for half a second. Right before it bit her she jumped up, stepping on the wolf's snout. When it opened its mouth Makayla used that as leverage and launched herself off of the creature and into the air.

She landed on one knee with her hands on the ground then turned and ran to the small path. She sprinted fast, knowing that the monsters would be out of their shock by now. Makayla kept running, occasionally looking at the ground, following the path, and occasionally quickly looking behind her. She could see the monsters following her, starting to gain. Makayla was so tired and she knew that she was going to pass out soon if she didn't stop so she pushed herself forwards, using all her energy in that one last run.

Her breathing was much harder than normal, and her heart-rate felt like it was going to jump out of her chest. She could feel herself getting closer and closer to where he is and that gave her the strength she needed to keep going up that hill.

'I'm so close! I have to keep going! She thought. There it is!' When Makayla looked up, she saw the entrance to where she was going to. The Camp she was told to find! 'It's right there! I can do this!' One last push...

Makayla took a deep breath and sprinted forwards even faster getting closer with every step. Looking a little to the right, she saw the giant Pine Tree she was told she would see. Makayla reached to entrance and right, before she got past the tree, she was stopped by what felt like an invisible wall.

"NO, NO, NO! Let me in! PLEASE! I'll do anything just please let me in!" She pounded against the barrier. Makayla turned her head and saw the monsters and The Shadow Creature only fifteen feet away, smiling creepily at her. Makayla turned back to the barrier. With every ounce, with every single drop of strength she had left, she pushed on the barrier and finally getting through. She broke through the barrier and fell to her stomach.

She turned onto her back and looked at the monsters trying to get through. When she saw how close she was to the monsters, she managed to scurry away using her elbows and feet. Her breathing was so hard Makayla was surprised she hadn't passed out yet. But she was close; her eyelids were falling. The shadow creature moved to the front of the horde of creatures but, thank goodness, it too couldn't pass the barrier. He just stared at her with the blank expression and those blood-red eyes. She knew her face was filled with pure fear, but Makayla couldn't look away. Her eyes were glued.

Suddenly, one of the wolves yelped and then turned to dust, with an arrow its side. The Shadow Creature quickly changed its gaze to something beside her and made a horrible growling sound. Makayla just barely managed to turn her head enough to see someone standing over her, bow in hand. Her gaze turned to the Shadow Creature. It glared at her one more time.

'Next time; I will see you again.' It fell into a shadow then faded to nothing.

Makayla looked at the person who stood above her. Faster than she had thought possible, the person knocked and fired arrow after arrow. With each one, more wolves turned to dust. In seconds the creatures were gone, dead or having run away. The person quickly turned and knelt next to Makayla who was on her back, breathing super-fast. She didn't see anyone else but him. He was the only one.

"Can you hear me?" He put his hand on her cheek. He looked kind of familiar, but she was too tired and her brain was too messed up to think. "Are you hurt? Can you talk? Can you even hear me?" He asked but he faded from Makayla vision and she passed out before she knew she knew what was happening.
