Rinritsu

.

Summary: Standing together is all that really matters.

Author's Note: My life really sucks right now. I don't know if I'll get through it or not but certainly friends are beautiful people you can count on. I don't have hardly any, and the ones I do have are not close by. So treasure those around you. Some of us just aren't that lucky. Rinritsu is a kanji character I found many years ago, depicting trees. Hence the meaning, 'to stand close together'. Like clay, I always wanted to fashion that term and their bond (Kakashi, Obito, Rin) into something beautiful. Well, it came out short, spontaneous, a little poetic, and yesterday night. Thanks for reading. Favorites are fine, but reviews are even more wonderful.

P.P.S.—Wow, this must be my shortest fic, but longest A/N! (I am a retard, I know; please forgive me.)

Hello. Goodbye.

It was how they met every day.

And the next, and so forth and so on until the maps and lines and scars consumed the in-betweens and the friendly, cheerful giggle of hello, goodbye, became their one steady ritual. Like a sunrise over ruin.

The sun also set in this place, and it did so often, prolonging their doubts and battles and longings as they stood together. Always. And when the long night was over, they said goodbye.

Hello.

The sun rose again over her ashes as one tried to cope, and the other, convalesce.

Daylight trapped the former, with all the snares and prickles of battle and lost friends, so precious.

Darkness eclipsed the latter in such workings and plans of the night, masked, and untold but to select few.

The daylight beleaguered the former, but he continued tripping through the days.

The darkness steadied the latter, looking up to the moon often, until…

BATTLE.

War. The fierce, cruel haze in a world of joy and pain. The darkness proclaimed it. The light prepared for it.

Like both sides of a coin, one had to win out.

The darkness.

Or the light.

Hello.

The voice came louder, toward the end.

Hello.

It said again.

Here they meet like once before.

Just as boys and nothing more.

Battle ahead and the laughter behind,

Here they are, two sides of a coin.

One stood near friends, touched by golden sky.

The other, a weapon, all alone in the night.

The coin shall spin out.

The noise to dust.

Sun to rise

And fall at dusk.

Scars remain and the sight of her, a truth—

through pain they once stood together—Rinritsu.

Standing close, one can stay sane.

Standing without, sends one to the grave.

Alone. In the night.

Hello…

And…Goodbye.
