1800- Salem, Oregon

Four men in hooded cloaks stood around a bonfire. The fire reached about twenty feet, burning brightly against
the dark sky. They all stood there, their hands clasped tightly in front of them. The only sound came from the crackling fire, not even the animals in the forest made any noise.

The stars shone brightly, the moon illuminated them, causing everything to seem brighter. The smoke filled the sky, giving it a menacing look and feel. The men stood, staring vacantly into the burning embers, watching the flames flicker and lick at each other; as if they were moving to an unknown and unheard melody.

A star shot across the sky, instead of being the normal blue and white, it was an odd mix, of green, pink, and blue. The four men nodded towards each other, their hoods still covered their faces. After another moment of silence another man joined them. He had remained hidden by the shadows; his cloak was a brownish red, different from his brethren. "When." One of the men spoke.

They was all focused on the leader, who had his hood, pulled further down, only showing his chin and casting shadows along his features that could be seen. The leader didn't answer; he stood, tall and silent. Before they could speak, or move, a dark shadow fell across them, the fire was put out instantly. All four men had horror struck faces as a dark shadow took form.

A woman stood before them. The shadows hugged her, making her seem even more horrific than before. The temperature dropped drastically as dark rain clouds took hold of the once star filled sky. Her skin was a deep marble blue; her eyes were black as coal. Her hair was three different colors. The roots began at a forest green that ran to the middle and turned into a dark pink color, which ended with the tips being a midnight blue. She had white and black markings that covered her arms, and what showed of her legs.

She laughed evilly, yet her lips never moved; all five men, who once stood in shock and fear, now stood high and strong. The laughter stopped and silence hung in the air once more. The woman spoke, "my daughter's will not be killed so easily." The five men removed their hoods. Their skin was pale, and was harder than marble. Their eyes were blood red as their fangs protruded from their upper lips. They sneered. "Our kind will search and kill them when the time comes, Such as we will kill you on this night." The leader sneered.

The woman's black lips curled into a sinister smile, "kill me you might, but you will not harm my children. Not in this lifetime, nor in the next." Four of the men lunged for her, all of which she killed with a flick of her finger. Shadows had sprung from her tips, enveloping the now screaming men. The leader stood his ground, his features unchanging. "You will die." He sneered. The woman laughed. The man began muttering words before moving his hands in a fast motion. The woman's laughter died as she began to scream, her mouth opened as a blood curdling scream left her. Black and white flames began to consume her body. The woman flung herself onto the man at the last minute. Both were soon consumed by the flames. The woman's dying words were, "live my children." The clouds vanished from the sky, the fire blazed once more. The only mark that showed of the events was an outline of ash where their bodies burned. The wind blew, blowing the ashes and carrying them into the night sky.
