It's my birthday. Little old me with no one to celebrate with, stuck in my flat watching Eastenders. I thought I would make an effort so I put on my floral dress and leather jacket and poured myself a glass of red wine. Then, unexpectedly, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see Matt Smith's face, "apparently it's you're birthday?" he asked me
"Yes." I replied, still in disbelief at what was happening
"Where are your friends?" he questioned
"They forgot my birthday." I sighed
"Well, you look too beautiful to be sat at home on your own on a Friday night. Come with me." He insisted. I grabbed my phone and handbag, still in shock that Matt was asking me to go out with him. We grabbed a taxi to a surprise destination. In the taxi we spoke about his childhood and how we lived in the same area and how much we both loved football.
The taxi stopped outside a small concert hall behind a pub.
"I heard this band two weeks ago when they were supporting the 1975. I think you'll like them." He smiled and lightly nodded his head. "I'll get us some ciders!"
"Ok, that would be nice!" I waited at the back of the crowd which had doubled since we first entered the door. I stood there absorbing the whole atmosphere and could sense the good vibes in the room.
The band came on stage and Matt still wasn't back with the drinks. Everyone seemed to surge forward towards the stage at the sound of the snare drum. I started to panic as I was being pushed around and felt lost amongst the crowd. I felt someone's fingers slowly slot into mine and I turned my head to see it was Matt. He gave me a beautiful yet cheeky smile which highlighted his dimples.
"I thought I lost you!" I shouted over the music
"That's impossible! You can't miss me with my big chin and huge ears!" We both laughed at Matt's comments and looked into each other's eyes just a little bit longer than we should have. A sudden drop in the music caused the crowd to form a mosh pit and someone knocked my arm and I spilt my drink all down my top. Matt leaned into me and whispered with his warm breath in my ear and said
"Come to the back of the room and we will tidy you up!" He grabbed me by the hand and guided me to the bar at the back of the room. The barman handed him some tissues and I tried to dry my top but it just wasn't working. "Here, have my checked shirt. I have a shirt on underneath." He handed me his shirt and I went to the bathroom and changed my tops over.
I came back with a smile "thank you!"
"You're welcome! Do you want to go somewhere else?"
"Sure"
We stepped outside the venue and decided to walk through the park. The temperature had started to drop and I started to shiver; Matt put his arm around me to warm me up. "Any better?" he asked
"Yes thank you." Even though I was warm enough he left his arm around me.
"Oh look! There's a bandstand over there and they're playing some music through the speakers!"
As we started to head in that direction it started to pour down and we were soaked, so we ran hand in hand to the stand. My eye makeup had run down my cheek. Still laughing, Matt ran his thumb under my eye to wipe away the mascara. I ran my fingers through Matt's wet hair, correcting his parting. At this he stopped laughing and looked at me while I was still adjusting his hair. He moved a little closer and my eyes dropped to meet his and I felt his strong, comforting arms rest around my waist. And in that moment he moved in and kissed me. He moved his lips to my ears and whispered
"Tonight may not have been perfect but I spent it with a perfect woman."
