This Love is Ours
Elphaba walked into the room, seeing her boyfriend, Fiyero Tiggular of the Vinkus was there, relaxed. She was not going to be in a crowd where she didn't know anybody, alone. "Fiyero!" She whispered. "It's me. Where's the food?"
"Is that all you care about now, is the food?" He teased.
"No! I'm just nervous, and when I get nervous, I eat."
"Good, Fae."
She smiled. "Well, are you coming with me? I want to eat!"
"You're my girlfriend. I love you, 'cause you don't care what anyone says about you, and you'r beautiful."
She smacked him. "Aw, shut up!"
"Ow!"
People stared at them. "We're going to have to take an elevator."
"Fine, I know why you want me in one, and no!"
"You ruin everything."
She laughed. "Like I would know."
"FAE!"
"Well, we're going to have to climb in this thing..."
"Sure."
They climbed in, fearless. Starting to sing the song she had heard on the radio that morning that had reminded her so much of her and Fiyero's relationship, grinned.
"Elevator buttons and morning air, strangers' silence makes me want to take the stairs.
If you were here we'd laugh about their vacant stares, but right now my time is theirs." She began.
"I'm with you, Fae."
"I know, poetic license."
He smiled.
"You know Galin and my father will freak when they find out!"
"Yeah. Your father mostly."
"Seems like there's always someone who disapproves, they'll judge it like they know about me and you. And the verdict comes from those with nothing else to do, the jury's out, my choice is you."
"That does sound like us. Who wrote this song?"
"Taylor Swift."
"Oh, okay. I thought you did."
Still continuing, "So don't you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine. And life makes love look hard, the stakes are high, the water's rough. But this love is ours.
You never know what people have up their sleeves, ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me.
Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles, but I don't care 'cause right now you're mine. "
Giggling, she whispered, "And you'll say, 'Don't you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine. And life makes love look hard, the stakes are high, the water's rough.
But this love is ours.' And it's not theirs to speculate. If it's wrong and your hands are tough
But they are where mine belong and I'll fight their doubt and give you faith, with this song for you."
Now with his arms around her, " 'Cause I love the gap between your teeth.
And I love the riddles that you speak, any snide remarks from my father about your tattoos will be ignored. 'Cause my heart is yours. So don't you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine. And life makes love look hard. Don't you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine. But they can't take what's ours, they can't take what's ours."
"You're so sweet, Fae."
"Thanks."
He kissed her. "I'm sorry, but what did you do that for?"
" 'Cause I love you."
Saying what was on her mind, " The stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours."
He kissed her again, and the door opened. Sometimes elevators don't open when the people inside them aren't ready, because both blushed.
