Better Than My Cat

AN: Ok, this hit me while watching Letter from Pegasus again. I don't think there are any real spoilers for it though. Simply that he had a cat. Ok, on with the story.

Ten Years. It had been ten years since he had left his cat behind with his neighbor and let go of the only other being that might have actually cared about him. That little creature that would climb up on his lap when he was watching TV or jump on the table and walk all over his laptop with he was trying to work, convincing him to take a break. Or whenever he fell asleep on his couch, the warm light weight of another being on his chest. He'd raise his arm up and pet him, scratching his tummy and playing with his ears. Then the soft little creature would curl up and nuzzle into him and go back to sleep. He'd smile thinking that at least one thing on this world could actually put up with and depend on him.

On Atlantis, he's found something is better than having his cat curled up his chest asleep. This being was bigger, but warmed his heart more than he ever thought possible. He couldn't imagine what he had done to be lucky enough to have the two year old body curled up asleep on his chest. The small body that had his mother's eyes, but everything else was his, including personality. Which was probably why he wanted to be around someone who would take care of him and let no harm come to him in his slumber.

Ten years ago, Rodney was just happy his cat would put up with him. But now, after all the years and the distance, he found something better to wake up to than his cat.
