A/N: Written for HeavyRotation - Happy Christmas!
He was two years old now, a beautiful, healthy, happy child so like her husband in every way. They were so blessed to have him, to have him be as perfect a child as he was. And he was perfect – their son, their treasure.
It was nearly Christmas, and they had bought a tree, decorated it. The presents Mary had purchased for their son were stacked neatly beneath the boughs of the evergreen, brightly-wrapped presents gleaming by the soft light of the candles adorning the tree.
'It looks beautiful, love,' her husband came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. She turned her head, beaming up at him.
'Thank you, Bert.'
'I have a present for you,' he murmured, his voice low, rumbling through her.
'Really?'
He released her from his embrace, picking up a small present from the side table. 'Here you go, my darling.'
She sank gracefully onto the couch, her husband joining her, watching her face as she unwrapped her gift.
'Oh, Bert,' she breathed, holding up the delicate diamond necklace. The stones glinted in the light, throwing rainbows onto the walls. 'It's beautiful.'
Gently, he took the necklace from her hands and fastened it around her slender, porcelain neck, releasing her hair from its confines as soon as the diamonds rested against her throat.
'Thank you, my dearest,' she whispered, stretching up to kiss his lips gently, tenderly. 'I love you.'
He returned her kiss, cupping the back of her head with strong, capable hands as he pressed her back against the couch. Her eyes were shining brightly when they broke apart.
The clock chimed midnight as he began to kiss her again.
'Happy Christmas, my love,' he murmured.
She smiled up at him and pulled him down for another kiss...
